To celebrate Pride month, we explore the major events and cultural milestones from the last 70 years of LGBTQ+ history

late 16th century- Pierre de Brantôme reports that lesbianism was brought to France "from Italy by a lady of quality who I will not name" & that it is generally preferred by unmarried female courtiers rather than "to go to a man & thus become pregnant & lose their honor..." Nonetheless, Brantôme tells his male readers not to worry since this "is nothing but an apprenticeship to come to the greater of men".
