Jaimi Bengtson on Instagram: "I suppose it’s a valid question… Three reasons why I replaced the balusters instead of painting them: 1. This is what I do. I experiment with home projects, always trying to think outside the box so that I can share new ideas with you. Everyone knows you can paint your railings, but the idea of replacing balusters isn’t as common and I wanted to share this as another way to update your railings on a budget. 2. I wanted to take some of the 90s out of the railings. Adding in squared off metal balusters changes the feel in a way that just painting the old ones wouldn’t have done. 3. We plan to upgrade the whole staircase in 1-2 years. We’ll be taking out the carpet and having all new railings made. Updating a 90’s Oak Staircase

So I’m guessing you’re here because you own a house built in the 90’s or earlier? Seems like a common trend back then was to have oak railings and oak stair treads. These oak staircases aren’t subtle, in fact, they scream 90’s please update the moment you see them. Below I’ll go through the process of the update and what you should do and not do when taking on this kind of painting project.
