3.3K views · 15K reactions | Fall is a great, budget-friendly time to start a raised bed garden! Two years ago, I filled all my @vego_garden raised beds using what I had available. The cardboard my raised beds came in was broken down and used as the first layer over the 1/2” hardware cloth I dropped to prevent burrowing animals. After that, I did a lasagna of leaves which are plentiful this time of year, finished compost from my tumbler, kitchen scraps and store-bought top soil. The result two years later (it all decomposed considerably after the first year) is the most crumbly, cake-like soil that produces the most delicious veg. I’m also happy to report that the beds look as good as the day I placed them in the garden. #raisedbedgarden #vegetablegardening #smallspacegarden #hugelkultur #gardenonabudget #potagergarden #kitchengardens #chicagogarden #hereshegrows #vegogarden #sustainabilityyourway | Heather Varkalis | Small Space Gardener | 331Music · Happy and Healthy

173K views · 14K reactions | FOLLOW THESE 3 STEPS RIGHT NOW TO GROW A GARDEN THIS FALL: Step 1: FIND YOUR FIRST FROST DATE Warm season crops like tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, eggplants etc will begin to slow down production as temperatures start to cool down, and will die when the first hard frost arrives (search for ‘First Frost Date’ for your zip code to find out yours). Don’t wait till that happens to plant your fall garden (it’ll be too late by then). Step 2: KNOW WHAT TO GROW Plant veggies that are cold hardy and can withstand below freezing temperatures, such as spinach, kale, broccoli, cilantro, parsley, carrots, beetroot, lettuce, arugula and more! Most can tolerate temperatures as low as 28 degrees Fahrenheit (and a light snowfall too). But if you protect them with frost blankets, fleece fabric or farm grade plastic, you can extend their lifespan significantly longer! Step 3: KNOW WHEN TO GROW Cold hardy crops that take longest to grow and mature (like Brussels sprouts, cabbage, broccoli, carrots etc) should be planted 10-12 weeks before your first frost date. Veggies that grow very quickly (like lettuce, radish & arugula) can be planted 4-6 weeks before first frost. Plants like kale, spinach, mustards and Swiss chard should be planted 8-10 weeks before first frost. So finally, the last part of the puzzle is, WHERE TO GROW? A fall garden is usually planted in late summer. So you need to be honest to yourself and remove plants that are struggling or diseased and aren’t bringing you joy. Getting rid of what isn’t working will allow you to create space for new opportunities, hope & harvests. Oh, and don’t forget to add compost to your beds prior to planting! 😊 Please like, save & share this post if you found it helpful. 💚 #fallgarden #gardenplanning #growyourfood #gardeningtips #growsomethinggreen #reshgala #vegetablegarden #gardening #gardenersofinstagram | Resh Gala | Organic Gardener | Trill Family · Watch My Shoes (feat. 3 Deep)

3.6K reactions · 1.3K shares | 🍃Plenty of late summer planting for fall harvest options! I have listed the # of days to harvest below. Keep in mind, I’m zone 7a. Always check your hardiness zone to determine which plants are most likely to thrive your location and time of year. If you live near me, go ahead and follow this list! 🌱Below are simply averages regarding days from planting to harvest. Factors like the variety, environment, soil, watering, and sun can impact the maturity timeline. Keep in mind things like lettuces and some brassicas can be harvested as soon as you see some growth (as microgreens or young leaves to create space for neighboring seedlings to further mature). 🪴Additionally, things like beets and radishes allow you to decide a harvest preference. I prefer to pick my beets larger but it means tougher skin (which I peel anyway). Whereas my radishes, I pick early and young. ☀️Parsley - 90 days ☀️Radishes - 40 days ☀️Turnips - 45 days ☀️Beets - 60 days ☀️Kale - 60 days ☀️Lettuce - 40 days ☀️Carrots - 70 days ☀️Cabbage - 80 days 🌿These are only some options. Don’t forget, the list can be quite endless. If you have some more 🫛 pea seeds laying around, toss them as well! ❔What are you planting this season? #gardeningtips #vegetablegarden #vegetablegardening #veggiegarden #vegetablegardentips #contianerplanting #potatoes #njgardeners #njgarden #growyourown #njgardening #growyourownfood #backyardgarden #backyard #gardening #gardener #homegrown #growyourfood #fromseed #eatwell #hardwork #gardenerlife #gardenerdreams #gardener #farmtotable #gardentotable #food #selfsufficient #fall #harvest | Tried And Treu Gardening | withluke · Original audio

5.4M views · 357K reactions | My only regret is not making one sooner 🤌 No more dragging dirty fruit and vegetables into the house. Everything will get washed and prepped right here 🥦🥒🥕🥬 Will also be used as a potting bench, a space to make cut flower arrangements and the hardware cloth top will make for a perfect curing table for my onions and garlic when that time rolls around. There isn’t much to this multipurpose garden wash table. It took me about 30-45 minutes to throw together. I purchased the wood because I’m an impatient person and wanted to start using this asap - but had I taken more time I probably would have ripped down a couple skids to save money like other projects I’ve done in the past. ** I bought ** 2 - 4x4x8 for the legs 3- 2x4x8 +1- 2x4x10 for the table top. I found a stainless steel sink in great shape at my local restore for $15 (but again, if you’re patient you could probably find one for free!) The hardware cloth I had leftover from predator proofing our chicken run this spring. Picked up a few little scrub brushes from the dollar store. All the grey water from my sinks will drain into a tote or barrel to use in the gardens 💦 The only thing I may add yet is a low shelf that sit along the back behind the sink to store little things. What do you think?
