Hip internal rotation occurs when the toes turn in with the leg at your side, or when the lower leg rotates out when your hip is bent. Without the proper amount of hip internal rotation, you can compensate with extra movement from your lumbar spine (lower back), anterior pelvic tilt, incorrect gait pattern (even almost undetectable changes that have a huge impact), and collapsing of the knees. While I would definitely classify these as “beginner” mobility exercises (and they can be scaled back to meet you wherever you are if the positions are still too challenging), that doesn’t mean that they should be easy.
