Laying your head on Boothill’s chest but instead of a heartbeat or silence you just hear a computer fan going absolutely ham.

Normally the computer fan is going at a normal speed and you can’t hear it but because Boothill’s about as subtle with his feelings as an airliner applied directly to the forehead it just gets louder the closer you get to him.

Prompt: Roller-Skating

TW/CW: Bronseele being awkward and gay, events of Teaching a Good Dog New Tricks mentioned, mentions of a prior argument but the subject is trivial and vague, barely proofread and I appreciate spellchecks!

Word Count: 1,104

A/N: Yeaaah-ha-ha, Seele! You know I had to make this a Bronseele piece, just look at them. I was sold on them when they had that scene in the Rivet Town courtyard and everything after that was just ough... Love these girls, especially in the museum event. Hoyoverse I beg you give me my Belobog lesbians back.

It was necessary in the moment. She still felt bad about it, but that didn't mean she thought it shouldn't have happened. She wasn't going to apologize...

...But she was going to make up for making Bronya miss ice-skating with everyone else.

"Miss Seele." She turned her head just in time to see one of the many attendants and bureaucrats in Qlipoth Fort heading the other direction, a box of their own in their arms.

She was still getting used to the reverence people said her name with up here. "Oh, yeah, uh, hi." Seele didn't slow down. She had her own, much heavier box in her arms and while she was definitely strong enough to carry it for another three or four miles, the corner edges had been digging into her fingers for the past two, and it was making her already jumpy mood more volatile.

Thankfully no one stopped her for conversation. She just marched ahead, unimpeded, until she came to the big ashy-brown doors of the main office. Bronya's office. The office she'd been all cooped up in, bickering with Seele, while everyone else was out on the lake ice skating.

On reflection... the argument could've waited. It really could've, and honestly the two of them might have been better for the mental break out on the ice, but there was nothing Seele could do about that part now.

But she could do this.

Shouldering the heavy door open like it weighed nothing, Seele marched right into Bronya's office. She was alone inside, sitting behind her desk and pouring over some document or other, and was more than a little startled by the sudden appearance of her partner.

The Supreme Guardian sighed and steepled her fingers, knowing exactly how this was going to start. Or, at least, she thought she did when she opened her mouth to remind Seele of just how busy she was.

"Seele--"

"I brought you something."

Bronya did a double take to herself, then lifted her head from her knuckles. "You... What?"

Seele trotted up the stairs to Bronya's desk and dropped the box she had been carrying on top of its smooth, polished surface. She was trying to play this casual, but she could feel the heat on the back of her neck and the tension buzzing in her shoulders when Bronya slowly rose from her seat. Carefully, she opened the flaps of the box, and peered inside, her normally steely eyes narrowed in confusion.

The contents of the box looked like ice skates, but they were much bulkier, both in terms of padding and the attachments on the soles. Were those wheels? And there were so many pairs inside, ranging in different shoe styles and wheel colours. Bronya took one of the pairs from off the top, holding it by the knotted-together laces to get a good look at them.

"They're roller-skates," Seele explained, filling the silence. "Like ice skates but for normal floors instead of ice."

Bronya took one of the skates properly in her hand, turning it to look at the little wheels. It somehow seemed more dangerous than ice skate blades. The look on her face showed she needed more convincing.

"I uh... I thought that maybe we could give them a try? Together, I mean. Since, you know--"

"Since we missed the ice skating festival last week." Her gaze was a little more accusatory than she meant it to be.

Seele ran her thumb over her fingertips. "Yeah."

Bronya looked back down at the box of wheeled shoes. "Why so many pairs?"

"It... was a bit of an impulse buy. I didn't really have the time to go here to confirm your shoe size and then all the way back down to the Underground where Sampo had these stashed--"

She cocked an eyebrow. "You bought these from Mr. Koski?"

The heat on the back of Seele's neck spread to her face, turning her a pretty fabulous shade of pink. "I! Feel bad! About picking a fight with you so hard that we missed the chance to go have fun with everybody else. You already don't give yourself any days off as it is and I made you miss the one you had set aside for yourself."

Okay, so maybe Seele was going to apologize.

"I'm... Sorry," she said, raising her hands to rest at either side of the box. "I shouldn't have picked a fight so hard. We could've waited and talked it out without getting all heated."

She bowed her head, trying to save what little face remained in her mind. Now that it was actually out in the open, this whole plan seemed a bit... ridiculous, to put it lightly. Did she really need to use an impulse buy to justify apologizing to her own girlfriend? Add that to the list of things to work on--

"I'm sorry, too."

Bronya set the roller skates back in the box and reached for Seele's hands, the soft velvet of her gloves unraveling the clenched fingers like the petals of a flower. "A fight is two people. I could have stepped down as well."

"Yeah, but--"

"The reason I trust you, the reason that we're together, Seele, in this Fort and outside of it, is because you... don't let me get away with things." Bronya's touch was as soft as her voice, her fingers rubbing little circles into Seele's knuckles. "Your passion, your fire... It's what I admire most about you."

Seele lifted her head, but her gaze was still cast aside. "Still... It doesn't give me the right to ruin your day off."

Bronya let go of only one of Seele's hands to nudge the box of skates towards her. "I might not have a day to spend, but I have an afternoon. Make it up to me."

And so she did. Or, well... Tried to. It was close enough to ice-skating--an activity both women were well-practiced in--that Bronya could avoid hurting herself too much, but the added obstacles of the rug, the furniture, and the stairs made actually mastering roller-skating in an afternoon treacherous. Still, Seele had a good hold on her girl, never letting her hand or her waist go without support as the Supreme Guardian tried to manage her center of gravity without taking a priceless antique down with her.

By suppertime, both of them were exhausted, and maybe only halfway to Bronya calling herself a decent roller-skater, but they both felt better. A lot better. Especially when Seele was offered a swift kiss to her cheek for the time and effort spent trying alongside Bronya.

*Beep!*

"Hi, Topaz. You have an open afternoon tomorrow, right? Why don't you come to my office? Have a little chat? There's some things I'd like to discuss with you. See you then~!"

It was amazing how Jade could make a voicemail sound so threatening. She hadn't even said anything specific, let alone cruel, yet here in the lavish waiting room outside of her office, Topaz could not bring herself to sit still. She was sitting on her hands, which kept them still, but her right leg was bouncing, causing her heel to tap- tap-tap-tap-tap on the tile beneath her. Even Numby, the bravest little Warp Trotter that ever lived, couldn't resist the urge to tremble and shake and murmur equations to himself to try and keep steady.

The assistant typing away at her desk was used to this. Most of the people who came to see Jade or Lady Bonajade or whatever name she gave people to keep them guessing. Honestly, Jade needed a hobby...

Topaz thought back to those stupid "anxiety in the workplace" seminars she'd had to go to in the early days. What was that counting down thing? Five things you could see--White tree, Numby, chair, weird oil painting... wall trim. Four things you could hear--her heel tapping, Numby mumbling, the keyboard the assistant was fiddling with, and her heartbeat. Three things she could... touch? Smell? Damn, which one was it?

"Miss Jade will see you now."

Topaz nearly jumped out of her skin, an electric shock running up both her and Numby's spines as they sat at attention.

"Okay!" She said, louder than she meant to. Without a second thought, she's on her feet, and Numby is at her ankles, following right beside her as she walked, in a very calm and collected manner, into Jade's office.

The office was much like the lobby, with all sorts of expensive decorations and furniture arranged in just the right way to balance the vibe fitting of such a successful business woman. Jade herself was sat back behind her desk, her chair pushed back so she had space to cross her legs and lean back a little, her hat's brim lowered over her eyes. Had she been napping the whole time Topaz was in the waiting room...?

"Topaz! There you are, right on time," Jade crooned, rolling her chair back into its proper place. She wove her graceful fingers together and leaned her cheek against them, so effortlessly confident and charismatic as her subordinate approached.

"You call, I come, Miss Jade." Topaz mentally kicked herself for saying something so fangirl-y. "You wanted to talk about something?"

"Oh, yes, of course." Jade gestured to the seat across from her desk, upholstered in a smooth, red leather with gold rope trim. It stood out against the purples and whites of the other seats, but Topaz supposed that was the point. It was the metaphorical Hot Seat.

Still... When Jade told her to sit, Topaz knew she had to. Numby settled on the carpet beside her, sitting ramrod straight.

"Are you thirsty?"

"No, Miss Jade, but thank you."

"I trust you weren't waiting long? I had some other matters to attend to."

"It's alright. I know how busy you are. And Numby was keeping me company."

Numby squeaked. They both ignored him.

And then a silence fell. Jade said nothing. She just smiled and looked at Topaz, watching her squirm a little in place.

"So... What is it you wanted to discuss...?"

Jade blinked, for a moment looking almost like she was coming back to herself. "Oh, yes, that's right. It's nothing, really. I just had an appointment fall through at the last minute and now I find myself with dinner reservations and no company."

Huh.

"Would you like to join me tomorrow for dinner? Nothing you would need to dress up for, but you know. It'll be a nice place."

Topaz swore everything just froze around her for a moment. A weight was lifted off her shoulders to know it was something mundane, yes, but now she was more confused than anything else. She looked at Numby, who was clearly thinking the same thing because he was already staring up at her with his mouth half-open.

Jade tilted her head slightly, an amused smile spreading across her lips. "Something the matter, Topaz?"

"H-Huh?" She turned her head so fast she felt it in her neck. "Oh! No, absolutely not, I'd love to! It's just..."

Her superior cocked an eyebrow, her smile still as if it were painted on Jade's face.

"...I think this probably could have been a text message."

"Ah." Jade nodded, her gaze rolling down across her desk. She chuckled softly to herself before continuing. "I suppose it could've been. Would that have been more convenient?"

"A little bit, yeah--"
