One small step could ruin mankind’s greatest leap...

Ethan Rae is known for his billions, but his latest business venture is about to really put him on the map: a quantum teleportation system that would solve global warming for good. Known as LEAP, the system is capable of providing Earth’s ultimate second chance...until it falls into the wrong hands.

When playboy CEO Samuel Reynolds III snatches LEAP out from under Ethan’s nose, he adds insult to injury by attempting to destroy Ethan’s business partner, Uma Jakobsdóttir. But this is no malicious whim. As the daughter of its creator, Uma enforces the LEAP Laws.

Because of its potentially devastating capabilities, LEAP users must not clone people, revive the dead, or merge minds and species. But in the race to recover LEAP, Ethan and Uma are faced with sacrifices that push their resolve to breaking point.

From the frozen wastelands of Iceland, to the leafy suburbs of London and the mean streets of New York City, LEAP is a heart-pounding technothriller brimming with psychological tension and high-stakes action, perfect for fans of Blake Crouch. If you crave morally complex characters, mind-bending dilemmas, and twists that will leave you breathless, this is the read you’ve been waiting for.

About OC Heaton

After a lifetime spent in tech, I now spend my days trying make sense of this beautiful, crazy world we inhabit through my stories—big issue technothrillers, with a side of sci-fi, that are super well researched inside complex plots full of twists and turns, that pose ethical and moral dilemmas.

When I sit down to write a book, I have three non-negotiables:

1. It needs to concern a current or recent real world issue that I can deeply research (I love research!) and weave my fictional story into. Hopefully, so tightly that you struggle to spot where one stops and the other starts.

2. It has to have a complex plot full of twists and turns that’ll leave you guessing right until the end.

3. It must contain grey characters, even the good guys. This makes sense to me. First, as a reader I hate stereotypical/one-dimensional characters and second, grey is real life, right?

When I’m not writing I relax in my hometown of Leeds in the UK with the love of my life and our two daughters. It rains a lot in Leeds but that works out well for me—loads of time for research and, of course, writing!

Action packed Sci fi

Action packed Sci fi
I legit binge read the last third of this in one shot, I could not put it down! It really grabbed me from the start, with the instant action, crazy science, and intense characters! I loved the way it jumped around, from the good guys, to the bad guys, although sometimes you couldn’t quite tell which ones were good and which ones were bad! The plot twists were insane, and the reason I couldn’t stop reading! I.had.to.know. I’m really looking forward to the next book, the cliffhanger at the end has me going crazy! Great read whether you like science or not! Highly recommend!

This fictional action-thriller is probably the most pressing and enjoyable dive into the climate change issue you might take. And O.C. Heaton’s “LEAP” leaves nothing to the imagination when tackling this important issue, which is unfortunately set twenty years ago – meaning we’ve wasted two decades without making much progress.

    About the Book
    Three broken people

    An impossible dream

A discovery that will change the world as we know it

Uma dreams of reversing global warming using LEAP, a mysterious device invented by her brilliant quantum scientist father.

After teaming up with Ethan Rae, Britain’s youngest tech billionaire, the pair plan to launch LEAP to help mankind and the planet, but news of the invention has leaked out and playboy CEO Samuel Reynolds III has other ideas.

As a trail of murder and destruction begins, the race is on to protect the powerful LEAP device and ultimately, the future of mankind. Along the way, Uma and Ethan’s worlds are torn apart and they’re left questioning what it really means to be human and what price they will pay to protect it.

From the frozen wastelands of Iceland to the leafy suburbs of London and the mean streets of New York City, LEAP is a sci-fi thriller that will keep you turning the pages as Uma and Ethan battle to protect the greatest invention in the history of mankind.

A race in which there can be only one winner…

    My Thoughts
LEAP is billed as a “technothriller,” and I’m not sure I’ve ever read something in this specific genre before. But the premise sounded interesting and important, so I jumped at the chance. Most nights, it was almost impossible to put the book down. Which we all know is the hallmark of a fantastic read. That alone merits the five-star rating and probably tells you most of what you need to know. But I’ll keep writing, anyway.

The “chapters” were broken into time periods, often minutes apart – sometimes traveling back and forth in time because of time zone differences. The prime action of the book was set within a thirty-six-hour time period and the break-neck pace kept you on the edge of your seat. This unique setup helped the author build a sense of urgency both in the storyline and the importance of the important ecological and technological battles the main characters were facing. The book was filled with heart-pounding, anxiety-inducing tension – in a good way, of course.

The characters seemed a little flat in some places, but by the end, they had mostly been unfolded into wonderfully complex, flawed, amazing characters. There were twists that left you questioning the characters right until the final pages, which was a unique experience that I thoroughly enjoyed.

This is a book for people who enjoy fast-paced stories with clear socio-political messaging. If you sign up for the author’s email list, you can get access to a free short story related to this fictional universe, and I can’t wait to dig into that. I’m also highly anticipating the follow-up to this novel “Green Ray,” which will further follow the storyline.

I’d call this a techno-thriller. A definite espionage, an action thriller filled with car chases and covert killers for hire book that will take you from Iceland to Britain to United States and back and forth multiple times.

Sometimes when you think about how fast our world has changed over the last century, it makes the book’s premise almost frighteningly too real. The FMC is tampering with science she really knows very little about and has a great deal of naivety in regards to how the powers of the world could use what she’s creating.

Her LEAP in science is intended to reduce the carbon emissions generated by the world, and she wants to foster giving it away. She is balanced by a business partner that understands that this could open up to all kinds of dark do-ers, but in the end also leaves you wondering which side he really may be on, but that is definitely left for the sequels.

And to no surprise, like any great scientific breakthrough those that want to exploit are going to do so with murder and mayhem, but the exploiter in the end will SHOCK YOU!

There are lots of characters in multiple locations spanning over days which was overwhelming and my biggest criticism, it was already heavier content with the technology aspect but then to throw all the locations and players it was a bit much especially in the front end of the book, it got easier about half way through.

I’ve always dreamed of teleporting and how easy it would make things. This book brings teleportation to life but also makes you think about it and the implications. This book is a thicker read but you won’t notice because it is so good. The characters are very well developed and the technology is extremely interesting. Each chapter starts with a date, time, and location. I like books like this because it really gives you a sense of time. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves light sci-fi, full of action books! The book is also setup perfectly for a series.

A very interesting take on transporter technology and some of the ethical problems that could come with it. Sadly, no discussion of the possible range. Would this make trips to the moon almost instantaneous? Or other planets?

You know if you would have asked me a few years ago what I liked to read I would have told you romance, rom com, smut and some mystery that was all I read.
NOW fast forward to today and here I am telling you I absolutely love a good sci fi book. I'm shocked. I never thought I would.
I absolutely loved this book. The author did an amazing job of telling a story of time travel and this book has some crime and mystery in it too. How cool is that!! I would have never thought to do that in a sci fi book ever !!! Then again I'm still new to the genre so I'm still learning.
This books takes us to so many cool places that l've now put on my bucket list like Iceland and San Francisco!! I definitely want to see these places now.
I love a book that makes you concentrate and think.
That was this book. I can't wait for the next book !!!
This was a great book for beginners if you're new to this genre!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An ecological thrill ride.

Imagine a world where we could teleport? It would change everything... I messed with the concept in Complete Darkness but here O C Heaton brings the 'world's greatest invention' into modern-day and it has seismic effects.

We get to join Uma Jakobsdottir, an eco-activist, and daughter of famed quantum scientist Jakob Arnasson - she has big dreams of reversing global warming.

It suddenly looks a lot more possible when she meets Ethan Rae - Britain’s youngest tech billionaire. Can they team up to launch her father’s greatest invention, which is, as you might have guessed called LEAP.

LEAP is a teleportation device that could replace all transportation, transform manufacturing and revolutionize food production. I don't need to spell out for you the incredible savings on fuel, time, and manpower such a device would bring.

But hold your eco horses, as ever there are forces that do not want to lose their income such as playboy CEO, Samuel Reynolds III... He wants LEAP to save his family’s airline, once the biggest in the US but now facing bankruptcy in the wake of 911.

I won't go into any more plot as reviews are here to tell ya if it's any good - not to regurgitate the promo blurb...

I'm delighted to report that LEAP is a fun, pacy read which will put a grin on those who like a bit of espionage.

Heaton writes in a highly detailed but readable format and whilst he doesn't skimp on the tech notes, they don't slow down the narrative unduly.

The action globe trots from the frozen wastelands of Iceland to the leafy suburbs of London and even the shadow of the Twin Towers, so buckle up for an ecological thrill ride.

Well this was a first for me in this type of book. A very well written story of family, love and friendship between a complex storyline. Uma’s character was one which I loved, hated and questioned throughout. Many twists and turns not expected as well as dramatic fight scenes that pulled you in holding your breath for the outcome. I found it hard to stop reading at times.

This book certainly lives up to its thriller promise. The first half is an ingenious set up of a story with interesting well-rounded characters. The second half is a non-stop action whirlwind that will make you race through the pages as you try to figure out how it's going to end. With a very topical eco theme running through the whole book, this is definitely a thriller for the modern age. Recommended.
