How to Grill Green Beans in Foil Packets
Clean the grill grates well and heat the grill to 350-400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Put the green beans in aluminum foil along with water, olive oil and seasonings. Then seal your foil packet well.
Place the foil packet on the grill and cook over direct medium heat for about 8 minutes. Flip the packet over and continue cooking for 8 more minutes.
Remove from the grill and carefully open the packet. Serve while hot and enjoy!
Mix it Up!
- A squeeze of fresh lemon juice over the top of grilled green beans adds a bright and refreshing flavor.
- After grilling them sprinkle a little Parmesan Cheese on top.
How to Store Leftover Green Beans
Transfer leftovers to an airtight container and allow to cool completely. Refrigerate for 3-4 days, or store in the freezer for up to 2 months. Allow frozen leftover to thaw before reheating.
For best results, reheat these green beans in the oven until warmed through. You can microwave them, but they’ll likely end up a bit rubbery and tough.
Can you cook green beans on the grill?
Absolutely! Foil is the perfect vessel to wrap this yummy veggie in. There’s no worries of beans dropping thru the grates of the grill and it cooks them to the perfect texture.
How long do you grill green beans in foil?
A green bean foil packet and placed over direct heat only takes about sixteen minutes to perfectly cook. It’s one of the most delicious side dishes ever!
Do you cut the ends off of fresh green beans?
This is actually called “top and tail” the beans, but yes you want to trim the ends off of each bean with a knife or by snapping them off. Prepping fresh green beans does take a bit of extra work, but the end results is beyond worth it!
What to Serve with Grilled Green Beans
Serve these yummy green beans with things like Blackstone steak, Blackstone chicken thighs, grilled honey garlic pork chops. They’re one of the tastiest veggies and go great with a hearty protein.
I love to serve double veggies sometimes too, and these grilled green beans taste so yummy alongside grilled cauliflower and grilled sweet potatoes.
Serve up this quick easy side dish alongside southwestern pork chops too — a great combination and tasty meal! Oh, it’s also yummy with crack chicken foil packets!
Pro Tips for the Best Grilled Green Beans
- For best results, use fresh green beans. Frozen are probably the next best option, but I do not recommend using canned.
- Transfer the packet off of the grill using tongs. You may want to use tongs to open the packet as well to avoid being burned by the steam.
- Don’t have olive oil? Use some avocado oil instead. A high quality oil will produce the best flavor and texture.
Green beans are readily available no matter where you live and they are affordable year round. I don’t know about you, but I have a hard time not just snacking on them right out of the foil. They are just so bright, fresh and good!

Grilled Green Bean Foil Packets
Ingredients
- 1 pound green beans washed and trimmed
- ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 Tablespoon water
- 1 Tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Prepare a clean grill for cooking on medium heat about 350 – 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Lay out one piece of foil about 12'' x 24'' and put the green beans in the middle of the foil, evenly spread out. Fold up ends of green beans to make a edge to contain water and olive oil. Sprinkle the seasonings over the beans, then drizzle with olive oil and water. Fold the ends of the foil in towards each other to form a packet. Wrap another time with foil to double layer the foil to prevent foil from tearing open.
- Place foil packet on grill over direct medium heat. Cook with lid closed for 8 minutes. Flip the foil packet over and cook an additional 8 minutes. Carefully open the bag and check a bean from the middle of the pile to test if it’s done.
- Remove from grill and serve.

This is an easy and delicious way to cook the beans. The first time I used your exact recipe (of course). The second time I added just a touch of liquid smoke. Both ways are excellent!
