We've used gitter for long time because it is an open-source project and regarded to be integrated to github account.

But Gitter client is not maintained anymore.
They added thread feature years ago, but iOS version never add the feature. The Github integration is also not very enhanced. I don't expect it can be better in short time.

Discord has also other advantages.

• Faster than Gitter.
• Searching better - even though Discord is also very weak here.
• Voice talk and screen sharing is available when we want them.
• One of the most popular platform for development these days.
