With this change if someone has nix installed and direnv hooks enabled in their profile then the development environment will be automatically configured - inc all dependencies required to build coder.

An unfortunate side-effect of adding .envrc is that it becomes harder to bring your own .envrc. I typically have .envrc in my global .gitignore which lets me keep them in repos without being committed. But since this one is in the repo, changes to the file would also be tracked (e.g. git stash annoyances).

Thoughts, can we do this nicely without committing the file? Or a workaround for us who like to use our own?
