I have run into the same issue with DRF 3.3.3.
Per @tomchristie wrote in #2656 on Nov 2, 2015, I'm creating a separate new issue for DateTimeField (#2656 is closed for DateField, not for DateTimeField).
A fix for this would be greatly appreciated.
