I think we can use the PR format (the Applies to question) here, that means we connect some of the PR 'requirements' and that means people won't forget them (unless they didn't read this doc).

This tweaks some of our language to work a bit better as we grow with more and more branches. I've just created the 2.2 branch (PR coming for some updates to it in a moment).
