In the "Resolve Preferences" subsection of the "Pattern Selection" section (line 66 of formatting.md), the text "Let ks be the decoded value of key" appears. The document doesn't specify what it means to decode the value of a key. The meaning of "decoding" a key should either be specified in the document, or if it's meant to be implementation-dependent, the document should say so.

That should probably be "resolved" rather than "decoded". Then with #382 we would get a definition of its meaning. Care to add this to #385?
