Wanted:

  • Infrastructure:
    • PyPy3.7-7.3.7 (with 3 weeks long regressions finally hunted down)
    • PyPy3.8-7.3.7 beta, with alignment effort to cPython standard, lag from cPython is reduced:
      • from 29 month with 3.7, 2018-06 to 2020-11 (PyPy-3.7beta),
      • down to 25 month with 3.8, 2019-10 to 2021-10 (PyPy-3.8beta)
    • Python-3.10.0
    • Python-3.9.8
    • pip-21.3.1
  • major modules:
    • Jupyterlab-3.2.1
    • Pandas-1.3.4
    • Spyder-5.1.5
    • Matplolib-3.5.0pre
  • Improve Dashboarding experience:
    • the 4 of interest: Panel, Voila, Dash, streamlit (apache-superset seems cloud only)
    • ship a tiny example for each

Focus:

  • pushed to increase PyPy3 package list and compatibility (until next limit requiring Python-3.8),
  • Web Technology: Dashboarding, Web API, WASM
  • Data Engineering: dagster, dagster-dask, dbt, prefect, meltano
  • Machine Learning: Integrated Windows ML, opencv ?
  • Qt-6.2.1 compatibility (for Python-3.10)

Hopes/Wishes for winter 2021-2022:

  • PyPy writes a PEP for Hpy interface (the necessary step to glory)
  • Spyder gets PySide6-6.2.1 compatiblity
  • co-competition heats-up on speed: PyPy-3.8, python-3.11.0a3, Pyjion, Python-nogil
  • a perceptible move to bind with rust rather than c, see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XyWG_klSAw&t=320s
  • push to get a competitive PyPy-3.10 in Q4 2022
