Dravidian Kondh

Khonds are an ethnic group in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha and West Bengal. Traditionally hunter-gatherers, their main divisions are the Kutia, or hill Khonds and plain-dwelling Khonds; the landowners among them are known as Raj Khonds. The Khonds speak Kui language.

Two young men of the Koya tribe wearing headdresses of cattle horns and shells, play drums during an end of harvest dance. The Koya live in the forests, plains, and valleys on both sides of the Godavari River in AP. Many also live in MP and Orissa. The Koya are said to have migrated to central India from their original home in Bastar. They believe their main deity still resides in a cave there. The Koya are one of the few multi-racial and multi-lingual tribal communities in India.
