Here a few extra tips for you: 

-For simple shapes like rainbows I prefer to use normal fondant mixed with Tylo powder rather than modelling paste. You do have to be fairly quick with this method though because it can dry out quickly and make it difficult to roll out perfectly. 

- use an acrylic smoother not only to achieve a smooth finish but to also help make sure each colour is the same size. 

- I knew my cake would be approximately 8” tall, but I wanted it to come up towards the top tier so I shaped it to be a bit taller than that. 

- the candy melts help to solidify the rainbow which helps so much with transportation.
