This bezel height tip is supported by our sponsor @turquoise_moose all the gorgeous turquoise in today’s video is from them. When working with free form turquoise I like to keep taller bezel strip around that I can then modify to the height I need. When you hold the stone side to side with the bezel wire you want the height to be about 1mm taller than the stones girdle. The girdle is the widest part of the cabochon. This particular wire for those curious is 3/16” (4.78mm) x 24g (.51mm)and it’s sterling silver. I then use my dividers (calipers could work too) to mark where I need to cut. I use my Joyce Chen scissors and I err on the side of leaving the bezel a bit taller because I know I can sand it down a bit more later on. USE CODE METALSMITHSOCIETY to save $10 off

It is so nice and flat I don't have to do any additional filing or sanding. In this video I'm using Ultra Flush RX 8142 and Flat-Nosed Pliers RX7490 both are available at @riogrande Once I know I have a good fit around my stone I like to give the bezel seam a gentle squeeze with the Flat-Nose Pliers so that the seam is perfect for soldering. Hope this was helpful and thank you to Lindström for sponsoring this post and supporting the page! #sponsored #pliers #jewelrytools #flushcutters #makingbezels #jewelrytutorial #makingjewelry

Creating Decorative Bezels
Here is a tip to make your own decorative bezel from @makeitwithkim - “Do you want to make your bezels fancy? While you can buy pre-made fancy bezel strip, in many countries it's not that easy to get hold of. But you can make your own! Most bezel strip is made from fine silver 0.3mm / 28 gauge thick which is super soft and easy to cut. So children's craft scissors, designed for cutting fancy edges in paper are also able to cut fancy bezels. I bought the cheapest of the cheap craft scissors on
