my creative year with tarot ✨

welcome to #mycreativeyear2024 in the creative coven community! each week, i’ll use a different card from my tarot deck to structure a gentle study of building a creative life centered around sustainability, ethics, and leaving a softer impact on the world around us. there will be a lot of slow fashion and natural dyeing and knitting, of course, as well as kitchen witchery, simple rituals, skincare herbalism, and learning new skills (like my newer loves of stained glass and wood carving) 🌿

i’m popping my personal favourite into the creative coven community this week (along with a link to my favourite wild cocktails book). it’s a take on the classic paloma, which is my preferred option if drinking tequila, and it’s bright and citrusy and also a little magical thanks to the addition of one of my favourite local herbs.

this week’s #mycreativeyear2024 is guided by the four of wands reversed. the fours are all about work, dedication, structure, stability. y’know, that stable earth sign energy that can be verrrrrrrry annoying when you’re in the flightier air (swords) or bursting fire (wands) mode of operating. it can sorta feel like chafing at the bit if you’re not ready to embrace it 🐎 find a recipe for chocolate truffles, paloma cocktails, and notes on my latest sweater knitting project...

this week's creative year with tarot is guided by the two of swords, aka finding harmony and balance in the energy of thoughts and words. the two of wands is about protecting and respecting that energy, in giving it its due, in trusting in the bright plans of the ace and your ability to move them forward. it’s about trusting yourself and your ability to accomplish the thing ✨

constant learning is key to being human imo 🤓 i'm making lake pigments as part of my natural dye pot exhaustion experiments, and then using those pigments in other art supplies. i’m testing out different recipes for pastels right now to find a base that i’m happy with that uses as few fancy ingredients as possible - i want a nice creamy pastel in the end that requires little tweaking based on type of pigment, while also ideally not needing a bunch of different kinds of fillers...

mixing up herbal bath salts is incredibly easy to do as a physical task. the trick comes in knowing what plants you’re mixing and choosing the right salt for your spell. personally, i like a good pink salt since my bath magic tends to be related to heart and emotional work, and then depending on what else i’m doing, i toss in different herbs to help me out 🌿 find the herbal salts recipe in this week's #mycreativeyear2024 post...

there’s been some major shifts in the cosmos recently (if you’re someone who follows astrology), so it feels appropriate that this week’s card for #mycreativeyear2024 is the king of wands reversed. i’m pulling a lot of reversals lately in general for what’s happening in the immediate/near future (with more uprights in future-casting, which i suppose makes sense assuming we do the work with the immediate stuff), and as i’ve mentioned before, i generally read reversals in tarot as...

this week, we’re visiting my creative year through the lens of the five of wands. the fives are known for being messy af - they’re the midway point, and i do not love the midway point. it’s the goo stage of metamorphosis, and who actually wants to be goo with no clarity of where you’re gonna end up? just give a clear answer 😂 then again, the wands are creative fire at work, and truly, we need the messy middle when it comes to the making process... #mycreativeyear2024 #diy #making #naturaldyes

we enter week two of the year under the guidance of the eight of cups reversed. the cups suit is all about those watery emotional depths we swim through, and is inherently linked to our intuition as a result. trusting our intuition can be tricky, especially when we’re either unpracticed in listening to it or are ungrounded in our bodies... #mycreativeyear2024 #knitting #naturaldyes #sustainable #slowfashion #diy #handmadedoll #ragdoll #toys #tarot #witch #making

we start the year off with the ten of swords reversed. this is a card of intentional release, which feels fitting for the turn into a new year and a fresh cycle. the lessons of cycles and temporality are some of my most treasured reminders from my tarot practice, especially when i can be so hotly emotional and caught in moments past, present, and (most frequently) potential future... #mycreativeyear2024 #knitting #weaving #herbalism #diy #sustainable #slowfashion #making #witch
