Tags: I’ve never been to either Luton or Milton Keynes I have been Close to Milton Keynes. I went to a concert just outside it once. got off the train at Bletchley park never went into Milton Keynes central. however I do believe there is some kind of curse. because. after that concert the train going back to London (btw I voted London in the initial poll) was so full and the platform at Bletchley park was so full that nobody was going to get on that it was the last train to London too if not for the kindness of the train driver who knew we were all stranded there (he made a bunch of calls and people showed up and eventually a train to Northampton was pulled and sent back to London with us on it) we would’ve been stuck there until the 7am train to London but anyway my point is. I looked up alternative routes to London and what my apps came up with was something like five different buses to Luton. and then the train from there to London a trip so convoluted that it was set to take several hours and get me into London around the same time as the 7am train so my options were: stay in the outskirts of Milton Keynes on a train platform all night or try to get to Luton? I stayed. and I would have stayed and waited for the 7am train. but thanks to that kindly driver I was in London by 3am so that was ok I much later found out that apparently there are trains from Milton Keynes central east to Bedford and that I could have gone there and taken the Thameslink back if I’d known that I might have tried but chances were there weren’t any trains going from Bedford that time of night anyway all this to say: I voted Luton in the final poll despite never having been there

It’s hilarious to me how Colossal Biosciences wants to be movie-version John Hammond but are 100% book-version John Hammond. In the Jurassic Park novel, it’s very clear: John Hammond is a con artist who gives people an illusion, not the truth. He knew from the beginning that what he was making weren’t dinosaurs, but he didn’t care because he had a story to sell. He wasn’t just “filling in gaps” with the frog dna, his scientists were basically making things up from whole cloth and he had no pretence about it- but he also knew what the public wanted to believe.

Case in point: https://time.com/7274542/colossal-dire-wolf/

These are not dire wolves. These are GMO gray wolves. Dire wolves aren’t even in the same genus as gray wolves, and we know this from genetics.

What Colossal is doing is scamming the public. They want you to believe that they can pull off miracles. They can’t. It’s the flea circus where everything is mechanised, but because you want to believe, you “see” the fleas. They might be good at genetic modification and they might be good at hyping themselves up, but they haven’t de-extincted the dire wolf. They didn’t activate mammoth genes in a mouse. They are lying to you and they’re going to keep doing it. Don’t believe the hype.

Of course Joanne is an aphobe. Of fucking course. Perfect example of how the hatred of these people will not stop at trans people. Push over that first domino and every other marginalized group downstream will be affected.

Transphobes also hate ace people. Acephobes also hate trans people. This is as predictable as the summer monsoon rains and we need to stop being surprised that we’re getting dumped on.

It comes from the same place: the idea that there is a right and normal way to be and the people who defy it are demanding “special rights” and “special attention” and making a mockery of good, normal people, the people with real problems.

Refuse to accept that. We all need to be allies to each other.

I can’t do a screenshot for privacy reasons but just to say I work at this tech company, right, and one of the heads of R&D just messaged my team to clarify an issue from last week and this is what he said:

“So you need to tick the box for ‘[redacted] (new new)’ instead of ‘[redacted] (new)’, ‘[redacted] (old)’ or ‘[redacted] (original)’.

I’ve decided on the path of least resistance and will be knitting up a huge square of this basic rustic lace to fold over. It means I will be doing a bit of shaping at the mid points of the rectangle to get a circular hole for the cuffs (rather than a pointy one - I can work with a pointy one I just don’t want that particular look, or feel). The seam at the sleeves I will decide how to tackle once I get there, but a visible seam is unavoidable anyway so maybe I can make it an interesting one.

hi knitters: I have never knit with cotton before (this is 23% silk 77% cotton) but only wool and wool/silk or wool/nylon blends - I should still block this, yes?

I cannot figure out what the fuck I’m doing wrong with this pattern to get the mesh looking like that (it’s supposed to zig zag every row not every third or second) and also somehow I have wound up with two extra stitches in my count??

really think I might just start over
