Arafinwë was born in Valinor in Y.T. 1230. He was given the name Ingoldo [meaning ‘The Noldo’] by his mother and Arafinwë [meaning ‘Noble (son of) Finwë] by his father. He prefers to be known as Arvo, or Ingoldo to those he is very, very close to. He never calls himself Finarfin except in Middle Earth.He was the youngest of the five children of Finwë, the High King of the Noldor. His mother, Indis of the Vanyar, was his second wife.His half-brother Fëanor disapproved of his father’s second marriage but Arvo was able to remain far from those disputes. He idolises his eldest brother as everything he thinks he should be, to the point of hero-worship, even as an adult.Arvo was distant from his siblings due to the large age gap, and did not get along well with his parents, often feeling he was not Noldorin enough and just a simple clash of personality. The relationship improves in verses where his father is reborn.As a small child, his foresight developed quickly and he was taught to control it by his mother and the Valar Irmo. At the age of twenty (seven in human years) Arvo was sent to Alqualondë to be a ward of Olwë. Here, he flourished, growing into a talented painter, skilled diplomat and confident young prince. He made his first real set of friends in Olwë's sons and daughter. He learnt to swim, sail and surf. Also, he learnt to speak Telerin. Once he came of age, he returned to Tirion only briefly.

In Y.T. 1280 Finarfin married Eärwen, daughter of Olwë. They set up a home in a quiet house near the beach and had four children, each of whom Arvo gave his golden hair and a Telerin name: Findárato [Finrod], Angaráto [Angrod], Aikanáro [Aegnor] and Artanis [Galadriel]. They lived peacefully for a time, apart from occasional outbreaks of fighting between Fëanor and Fingolfin.In Y.T. 1495. Morgoth destroyed the Two Trees, slaughtered Finwë, and stole the Silmarils of Fëanor. Fëanor came to Tirion upon Túna, as the new King, and convinced many of his kin to leave Valinor for Middle-earth, to recover the Silmarils and defeat Morgoth. Arvo urged restraint, realising the need for preparation, planning and cool heads. However he followed his brother as did his children. Finarfin led the last host. As such they did not participate in the First Kinslaying. Arvo was heartbroken, but continued, boarding the stolen ships. While they were travelling up the coast of Araman, the Vala Mandos appeared and pronounced the Doom of the Noldor.Dismayed by the prophecy and already contemplating return, he turned back to Valinor with a small group of his people; his children, though, went on. He became High King of the Noldor in Aman and resided in Tirion. He and Eärwen slowly rebuilt their relationship.Eventually he did come to Middle-earth, leading the Valinorean Noldor in the War of Wrath, near the end of the First Age. He was a tactical and stern leader, but only an average warrior, fuelled by his desire for revenge.He still rules the Noldor in Valinor from Tirion upon Túna.

PERSONALITY

Arvo has a patient temper, a cool head, preferring to reach a compromise to avoid conflict. He is very wise, able to read people well and capable of Elven Telepathy and Foresight. Arvo often experiences visions. While he is not particularly shy, he dislikes public attention. His strong sense of duty overrides this as King.There is a darker side to this gentle elf. While it is harder to provoke, he has a vicious temper when angered and is very stubborn. He is also proud, like his brothers, and capable of vicious violence and mockery if angered or insulted. He is, however, quick to forgive.

APPEARANCE

Arafinwë has long golden curls that frame handsome features. He has his father’s strong nose. He is 7 '0, height inherited from his mother, and broad shouldered like his father. In his early youth, he was willowy and thin, but during adolescence he developed a leaner figure.He wears his hair loose or half-up, sometimes adorned with white gems. He usually dresses in white, gold or pale blue and prefers delicate, flowing silks.As a youth, he developed strong muscles from swimming and rowing and as King, he trained regularly with a sword and shield and so maintained this. His favoured weapon is a spear. His eyes are brilliant blue, often filled with a sad, knowing look.

  STAYED VERSE [SECOND AGE]  
After the defeat of Morgoth in the War of Wrath, Arvo could not face returning to Valinor. Instead, he hands his title to the next in line and retires to live near Galadriel in Eregion and later the Grey Havens with Cirdan.  CHOICE VERSE [FIRST AGE]    
Arvo follows his family to Middle Earth, falling under the Doom of The Noldor. While he survives the First Age, he does no remarkable deeds, but supports Finrod and Orodreth in Nargothrond.  CORRUPT AU    
Preying on Arvo’s bitterness and jealousy, and his frustration with his brother’s attitudes, Melkor corrupts Arvo into one of his agents, working secretly to carry out his plans.  KING OF ANGBAND AU   
During the War of Wrath, Arvo overthrows Morgoth and takes his throne. The essence of Angband slowly corrupts him into a tyrant almost as feared as his predecessor, seeking justice and revenge for his people and desperate to turn Angband into a fearsome elven kingdom. If the Silmarils are present, he locks them away or gives them to the sons of Fëanor. He sees treachery and evil everywhere he looks and is intensely paranoid.

Indis was born on the shores of Middle-Earth, many years before the Vanyar crossed the sea to Valinor. She had just reached adulthood when they arrived in Valinor. Her mother was the sister of Ingwë, King of the Vanyar and her father a high-ranking noble.Her mother’s name was Inya and her father’s name was Manyaro.As a young woman, Indis fell deeply in love with Finwë, but seeing him happily married to Miriel, she resigned herself to her fate and kept her feelings hidden.In one of his wanderings Finwë met her again upon the inner slopes of Oiolossë, Finwë perceived in her eyes the love that had before been hidden from him. So it came to pass that Finwë and Indis desired to be wedded.

With the Statute of Finwë and Míriel, Manwë allowed Finwë to take a second wife and Indis thus became the stepmother to Fëanor. With Indis, Finwë had four children: Findis, Nolofinwë, Írimë and Arafinwë.Fëanor observed the influence of Indis on Finwë, including his speech which started to resemble that of the Vanyar and considered it a disrespect against his mother.Although Indis tried hard to get Fëanor to see her as a mother, her efforts were often counterproductive and too overbearing, and once her own children were born, her attention was diverted.After the slaying of her husband, she, along with her eldest daughter Findis,returned to Valinor to live among her people, the Vanyar. Her relationship with her daughters-in-law improved while her relationship with Arafinwë remains strained

PERSONALITY

Indis is a very intelligent woman. Much like her son Ingoldo, she is calm and dignified in public, able to mask her emotions and play the noble Queen, the polite hostess, the gentle Lady. In this way, she kept her love for Finwë hidden for many centuries.However, beneath this exterior, Indis is anxious and very concerned with how others see her - she is very much a perfectionist. While she is a loving mother, she can often be a little overbearing or too critical, a reflection of her own stresses about her position.Being seen as a Noldorin Queen rather than a Vanyarin consort is very important to her.Indis' hobbies included a variety of sports - she is a keen sprinter and very athletic - and music. She plays the harp, flute and piano and has a wonderful singing voice.She also has the gift of foresight, though to a lesser degree than her son and granddaughter, and was taught to cope with it by the Vala Irmo.

APPEARANCE

Indis is remarkable among the Vanyar and Noldor for her beauty. She has regal features, proud, but prone to smiling, surrounded by waves of golden curls. Indis has an excellent eye for fashion, and even before her marriage to Finwë, she was a highly influential figure in Elven fashion. Her favourite colours are royal blues, purples and white. She wears a lot of jewellery, much of it gifts from her husband or children and weaves jewels into her hair and clothes.

In the First Age: Indis, though devastated by the death of her husband, joins the Noldor in their rebellion, supporting Fingolfin’s leadership. She follows him across the Ice and later dwells with him and then Fingon in Barad Eithel. She flees to the Havens and lives there until the end of the First Age.She sails to Valinor at the end of the War of Wrath.In the Second Age+: Instead of sailing, Indis remains in the Havens and then in Lindon, living in the court of King Gil-Galad. After his death, she decides to live with Galadriel and Celeborn in Lothlorien and she sails at the end of the Third Age.  ASOIAF    
Lady Indis is of the House Imin, niece of the Lord Ingwë. She is a prominent member of his court in her youth, famous for her dancing and her athleticism - she is a keen hawker, who loves to ride and race.In her mid-twenties, she becomes the second wife of King Finwë and has four children with him. She keeps her hobbies hope as best she can.  MODERN    
Indis Manyariel is a young woman from a good family. She teaches at a dance studio. After her marriage, she decides to become a stay-at-home mother to her five children and step-son, and then help care for her grandchildren. She volunteers with a local school’s dance club in her spare time, as her kids get older.
