A case study of 5 students was under the research of a mixed-method approach of data collection and analysis. The study suggested a model to measure the development of learner autonomy. It is called (I & ME Learner Autonomy Development Indicator). It has three main components Inquiry-based skills, Metacognitive Skills, and Emotional Intelligence Skills. The presenter will handle learner autonomy in second language acquisition and will show the results of his experiment, which concluded a positive impact of mLearning on Learner Autonomy. 96 views

THE EFFECT OF MOBILE LEARNING ON LEARNER AUTONOMY IN THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, 2021

Recently, there has been an increasing interest in incorporating mLearning into the learning-teaching process to enhance students’ academic success in different educational contexts (Al Zieni, 2019; Gitsaki & Robby, 2014). According to Ting (2013), teachers can expect that “by relating the school learning to students’ digital literacy, the way of students’ autonomously acquiring their digital literacy outside school may help them develop autonomy in school learning” (p. 25). This case study is an example of incorporating digital literacy in English language education in which mLearning was used as the medium of instruction. All the materials used by the teacher and students were digital, and the students used iPads as the principal tool to develop their English language skills. Students’ engagement in level 3 Foundations Program at Dubai Men’s College (DMC) of the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) was examined to explore the effects of mLearning on their academic autonomy and to promote their overall independence. The students developed their autonomy to exercise their digital literacy to resolve the difficulties they faced while using their educational Apps, Web exploration, and data collection for their academic work.

The researcher used a mixed method approach composed of qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis. The findings indicate that there is a serious problem regarding classroom management in public high schools in the UAE. Moreover, the study suggests some beneficial implications for teachers for effective classroom management. One of these implications is the teachers’ need to build rapport between them and students as a means for a closer relationship that facilitates classroom management. Also, teachers should know something about students' social backgrounds in the UAE as this is a first step to dealing effectively with students and then for effective classroom management. Moreover, the findings indicate that most students like affective treatment from their teachers.

THE IMPACT OF MOBILE ASSISTED LANGUAGE LEARNING (MALL) IN DEVELOPING THE SPEAKING SKILL: AN EMPIRICAL STUDY IN THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, 2024

They present an alluring chance to access numerous information sources at any time and location. In the study context, students who enrol on the Foundation program at Dubai Men's College in the United Arab Emirates (the UAE) suffer from a cumulative lack of language proficiency in general and speaking proficiency in particular. The study's primary purpose was to examine the impact of Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) on students' English language speaking skills. The study also examined how teachers perceived MALL's effect on students' speaking skills. The research question was: To what extent did students' speaking skills in the experimental group develop through MALL compared to those in the control group? This subject was addressed using a mixedmethod approach, including qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis. A quasi-experiment of 66 students formed an experimental and a control group, and 20 teachers were involved. The results showed that the experimental group had statistically significant differences from the control group. The study emphasised the advantages of adopting MALL to develop students' speaking skills, particularly those unmotivated.

They offer an appealing opportunity to access multiple sources of information anytime and anywhere. Students who join Dubai Men's College in the Foundations program suffer from accumulative weakness in the language skills in general and in the listening skill in particular. The study aimed to confirm the positive impact of Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL) on English Listening Skills. It attempted to examine the effect of MALL on students' acquisition of English language Listening Skill at Dubai Men's College (DBM), the United Arab Emirates. The study also investigated teachers' perspectives on the effect of MALL on the students' listening skill. The research question was: To what extent students' listening skills have in the experimental group developed through the use of MALL compared to the students in the control group? A mixed-method approach composed of qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis was used to answer this question. 66 students participated in a quasi-experiment of an experimental group, and a control group and 20 teachers participated. The findings indicated that there were statistically significant differences between both groups in favour of the experimental group. The research stressed the benefits of using MALL to improve the students' listening skills, especially those who seem to be demotivated. Finally, some teachers showed a lot of support for the use of MALL. Additional empirical research should be conducted to increase the generalizability of the findings.

For learners, they offer an appealing opportunity to access multiple sources of information anytime and anywhere. Recently, there has been an increasing interest in incorporating mobile learning (mLearning) into the learning- teaching process to enhance learners’ academic success in different educational contexts as “traditional teaching and learning methods are becoming less effective in engaging learners and motivating them to achieve” (Gitsaki et al., 2013, p. 1).
Pegrum (2014) defines mLearning as “the exploitation of ubiquitous handheld technologies, together with wireless and mobile phone networks, to facilitate, support, enhance, and extend the reach of teaching and learning” (p. 15). He also points out that it could enhance anywhere, anytime learning and learners can learn at their own pace as well. Although there has been some integration of mLearning in language classrooms globally, there is little empirical research dealing with the effectiveness of using mLearning on learners’ acquisition of language skills and learner autonomy. This study was an attempt to examine the effect of Mobile Learning on the Learner Autonomy. The results show that there is a positive impact of mobile learning on learner autonomy. The study results suggested (I&ME) model to measure the development of learner autonomy.

Learners cooperate and work in groups to achieve a particular job. The study reflects an empirical experience of using WebQuests as an inquiry based learning with students in a secondar school in the UAE. The results show a lot f improvement in their language skills in general.

It is a promising learning construct associated with active learning. It is a multi-faceted theme with psychological and philosophical ramifications. (Benson, 1999). Learner autonomy development is a sign of success, especially to first-year undergraduate students. Some students who join their university life seem to lack some sorts of independence. This presentation reflects an empirical study on a case study of some students who entered the Foundation's program. It studies the effect of Inquiry-Based Projects, Emotional Intelligence Activities and Meta-cognition tasks on these students’ learner autonomy.

Learning may be affected negatively if there is no effective management of the classroom. This study was an attempt to investigate the existence of classroom management problems in public high schools in the UAE and to find out the effective techniques and required skills needed for teachers to manage their classes successfully. To answer these questions, I used a mixed method approach composed of qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis. 210 male and female public high school EEL teachers participated in this study. 20 of them were chosen purposefully to participate in informal interviews and a focus group composed of 5 teachers was held. In addition, 100 male and female public high school students took part in the study. 20 of them were chosen purposefully to be interviewed informally.
