Mitjili Napanangka Gibson - c.1930 – 2010

Born in 1940 in the Gibson Desert near Winparrku, near Papunya, Mitjili lived for many years at Nyirripi exercising traditional skills of hunting and gathering bush tucker with her family. She was the niece of artist Dorothy Napangardi, whose success encouraged Mitjili to begin painting. Her Dreaming stories (Jukurrpa) are associated with her land: Mina Mina, a sacred site for women with the skin names of Napanangka and Napangardi, features in many of exuberantly colored works.
