To preserve them, they are cleaned in water and baked for several hours to dry and kill the insects inside. When they are dry, I degrease the surface and apply 2-3 coats of base paint to each acorn. Then I carefully hand paint each acorn. After they dry, I apply an acrylic gloss varnish and let them set overnight.
