Christie's on Instagram: "Painted in 1982, ‘Untitled’ is de Kooning’s exuberant symphony of colour and gesture, where the canvas overflows with luminous sensations of the sky and sea, captured in energetic strokes of vibrant jewel-tones that dance across the surface of the painting. ‘Untitled’ converges decades and styles of de Kooning in a painterly retrospective – from the brushy figuration of the 50s and 60s, to the richly worked surfaces of the 70s, and foreseeing the refined, compositional lyricism of his later works of the 80s.

This painting, a highlight of Beyond Form: A Revolution in Expression, is an exceptional example of the artist’s late practice, highlighting de Kooning’s mastery of form, color, and composition.
