Plate Camera

An early sliding box type dry collodion plate camera, with a lens made by the London Stereoscopic Co. Frederick Scott Archer (1813-1857) invented the wet collodion process that replaced the calotype and daguerreotype processes. Popular from around 1855, it was the first photographic process that produced finely detailed negatives, of which more than one copy could be made, and for this reason is widely considered one of the most important developments in photograpy. This article discusses how Joesph Niepce was the first person to create a photographic image. The article states, "Joseph Nicéphore Niépce used a portable camera obscura to expose a pewter plate coated with bitumen to light." Manufactured about 1920 by Voigtländer & Sohn AG of Braunschweig, Germany. This is just the coolest little camera! Afolding plate camera using a 6x9cm film back. It has a Voigtländer Anastigmat Voigtar 105mm f/6.3 lens set in a a IBSOR DDR shutter made by AGC and having the AGC trademark (a symbol of three half-open shutter blades).
