Indian Style Interior Design

Indian styled interiors feature a combination of muted & bright colour - particularly red & yellow ochres & other earthy tones, as well as jewel-like blues & rich greens. Most traditional & contemporary Indian homes have beautifully carved furniture & architectural features in dark woods, such as sheesham (Indian rosewood), and spaces have brass fixtures & decor pieces, and brightly woven, block printed or embroidered textiles. Most Indian interiors feature a room or area for pooja (prayer), with statues of Hindu deities and paintings of the same, often with gold leaf highlights. Jhola (indoor swings for sitting on) are another distinctive traditional feature, as are finely framed four poster beds, while the much loved, traditional chettinad home is based around a stylish courtyard. However, regardless of regional variations, Indian homes are always eclectic & full of interest.
