Rustic Winter Sign | Rustic Winter Sign | By Creating Through Chaos | Hey everybody it's Janice with Creating To Chaos. I'm going to start this project off with this sign that I got at a thrift store. I'm going to start by peeling off the price tag and sanding off some of this dark lettering that's on here. Once I have that all sanded I'm just going to wipe it down and then I am going to paint it with some white chalk paint. So I just did a couple of coats of the white chalk paint. I'm doing this so that none of that black lettering comes through the scrapbook paper. I'm going to put on this at a later point. So I'm just going to give this a good coat of this white paint. And then let that fully dry. Once it's fully dry I'm going to take this scrapbook paper. I believe I got this at Joanne's. I can't remember for sure. But I think it's from Joanne's. I'm going to put a good heavy coat of Mod Podge on my sign to hold my scrapbook paper. The sign wasn't exactly even. It was kind of like up and down so I wanted to make sure I put enough of the Mod Podge on there to hold really really well. So I'm just going to get those edges and in between there really well so that it doesn't peel up at some point. I'm going to lay that right on there. And then smooth it out with my hands. Once that was fully dry, I'm just going to take a I use my Cricut tool and just kind of slit the slit down the middle and then I'm just going to sand off the edges on both sides and then I'm going to do the same in the middle. I'm going to sand it but I am going to use a nail file to do that because it was such a tiny little area. It was easier to get in there with a nail file. So I'm just going to grab that nail file and then just get that center removed. Once that is all sanded I am going to take some of this spackling from Dollar Tree. I'm going to put it on a tray. It's kind of dry. So I'm going to add some white paint to it. So I'm just going to use some white chalk paint. I'm going to add that to it and then mix that all in. Um it not only does it help weten or moisten it again I should say. But it also helps to change the color to a brighter white. So I'm just going to mix that all the you don't want to add too much paint because you still want this to be on the thicker side so if it starts to thin out you want to add some more of the sparkling or more paint if it's too dry just kind of go back and forth but you want it like the consistency of almost like cream cheese so once I have that all mixed together I am going to use that and this stencil from Hobby Lobby so I have this snowflake stencil from Hobby Lobby I'm going to set that biggest snowflake in the center here I'm just going to lining it up and then I'm going to tape just one side of that down and I'm just going to use some blue painters tape to do so so I'm just going to put a little bit right on the edge here and making sure that that's centered then I'm going to use a palette knife to apply the sparkling to my stencil so I'm just going to make sure that it's laying flat grab some of that spackle on my palette knife and then rub it across the snowflake just making sure that I all around the edges. You can leave it so that it's not you don't have to fully scrape it on there. You can leave it so it's up a little bit you know then just make sure you have the full coverage. You want to go slow doing this so you don't pull up the sides of the stencil. Once you have it all on there and it's fully covered. You can just pick up the stencil while it's still wet. And peel it off. Once you have that all on there and picked up. I'm just going to take another palette knife and slide it through the center to get rid of that excess sparkling that went into the center of the sign. Just making sure I scrape all that off. And then I am going to take some glitter and I just used extra fine glitter. I got this at Walmart. And I'm just going to sprinkle that all over the snowflake while it's still wet. Next I'm going to take and add two smaller snowflakes to either side. So add this snowflake stencil from a long time ago. And again I'm just going to take my palette knife and add the spackle to this snowflake stencil again. On this side and then I'm going to repeat the process on the other side as well. And again I'm just going to take the other palette knife and slide it through the center to pull off some of that excess. And I'm going to repeat the same process over here. I used a stencil that matched the other side. So the same snowflake. And again just filling that in. Then I'm going to peel that up. Clean out the center. And I'm just wiping my palette knife off with a baby wipe. And then once I have both of those all scraped from the center I'm going to take some of that glitter and add that to it again on both sides. And I'm doing this while it's still wet. And look at how cute this is. I absolutely love it. Next I'm going to take a little bit of antique wax and go around the edges and I made sure I got the wood part on the sign with that and then kind of let it go a little bit over on the scrap of paper. I wasn't going crazy. I don't want this to be too rustic. And then once I have that all stained I am going to take these stickers. They're actually called thickers. I got these at Walmart I believe but I know Hobby Lobby and Joanne's have them. And I'm just going to peel off all the letters that I want. And I'm going to start by putting an exclamation point at the far right side. And then I'm going to work my way in. I'm going to add an R and then another R and then a B to spell out the word bur. And that is it. This project is finished. I think this turned out so super cute and I absolutely love it and it's perfect for all winter long. I hope you enjoy this project. I hope it inspires you to make one. Thank you so much for watching and as always don't forget to spread the chaos.

Dollar Tree Gingerbread Houses | By Creating Through Chaos | Hey everybody. It's Janice with Creating Through Chaos and we're going to start this project off with this little sign that I got at Dollar Tree. And the first thing I'm going to do is kind of give a little sand to the dark black letters that were on there. I'm not going to sand them all the way off but just kind of get a little bit of them off so they're not as dark. So when I cover them with paint they won't show up as much. I'm just going to wipe them off real quick. Next I am going to paint all of the wood beads in between each one of the houses with some white paint. I ended up doing two coats on those and I let them dry in between coats. Once I had those all painted, I am going to paint the houses and I'm going to paint these in the color territorial beige and I believe it's an apple bearer color. It's a color I've had for a long time so I'm not sure if they even still exist. I hope it does. Now that I have all of those painted. I am going to set that aside and I'm going to take these thickers they're called because they're thick stickers. They're like card stock stickers or chipboard stickers. That's what the word I was looking for. I'm going to pull off the letters B A K E and then I am just going to stick them to my mat and then I'm just going to paint them white. I did two coats on those making sure that I got the edges of them also. And I got these stickers. They have them at Hobby Lobby. They have them at Joanne's. I'm pretty sure they have them at Michael's too. So I gave those the two coats of white paint and let them dry. Now that they're all dry I am going to glue them to the front of my houses. And they are still sticky but I'm still going to add glue. So I'm just using the Aileen's tacky glue. Just running a little bit on them and making sure that I center my letters. And you can use any kind of glue that you have. I I wouldn't recommend using hot glue unless it's you can get it to come out very very thin because these are small. So I'm just kind of just tapping the glue on. I'm not using a lot at all. And make sure that your letters are centered so that they look nice and then press them down to make sure that they're fully stuck down. And look how cute that is already. And as you can tell it's gingerbread themed. Next I'm going to take my glitter snow and I'm going to do all of the roofs of the little houses and I also let it kind of come down a little bit in the front on each house. And I just did the tops. So once I had those all done I have my matte down and I'm just going to sprinkle some fine glitter on the top of those. And then just kind of bang off the excess. Once I had that on I'm going to take this three dimensional fabric paint I used to call it puff paint when I was a kid but times have changed I guess and I'm just going to kind of go around the edges of each of the houses with these little swirly lines these don't have to be perfect icing a gingerbread anything is not perfect and then I am going to make a snowflake at the top of each one and I'm going to repeat this process on all four of them nothing fancy unless you want to fancy with it. I just didn't get fancy with it. I liked it kind of how it was. And I got this paint at Hobby Lobby also. So there it is when they're all finished. And while they're still wet I'm going to put some more of that glitter on there. I'm just going to sprinkle that right over the top of all of that dimensional paint. While it was still wet so that it stays. And then just bang off the excess. And look how cute that is. You can't really see how sparkly it is. Finally I took my embossing tool. And I'm just going to put red polka dots throughout each one of the houses. It's a deep burgundy. I thought this needed just a little bit of colour but not too much. So I went around. And at first I did it with the the pointier end and then I decided I wanted to use the thicker end to make the dots a little bit bigger. So as you can see I made them a little bit bigger and I did that on all of the houses. And I think this is just so super cute and I think this pop of color was exactly what this needed. And I absolutely love all these gingerbread projects. They have been so much fun to make. And my whole kitchen's going to be filled with like handmade stuff which is even cooler. And there it is after I do all of the dots and look how cute this is, how simple it was. It was so much fun to make. Thank you guys for watching. I hope it inspires you to make one and as always, don't forget to spread the chaos.

DIY Snowman Thrifted Vase | By Creating Through Chaos | Hey everybody it's Janice with Creating Through Chaos and I found this little tin vase at A Thrift Store for one dollar. So I am going to repurpose it. And I am going to start by painting it all white. I'm not worried about full coverage with this just enough to get a good base coat on. As we'll be covering the white up afterwards. So just a quick base coat. Especially where on the front whatever side you choose to be the front. Once I have it all painted I took one of my printables and I sized it down to the size that I wanted. So this is just the snowman printable. And I'm going to cut that out. I want to make sure that there's no white showing and I believe the size I used was four by six. On your printer, there's settings and you can change the size So it fits perfectly on the front of there. I mean obviously I'm going to have to do a little trimming. So what I'm doing now is just kind of rubbing it along the edges to kind of get where the lines are that I need to cut. So I'm just going to push it all down. Making sure that I keep that design in the front. And then I'm just going to cut off all that excess. And this is probably not the most perfect way to do it but it definitely works really good. So now I have it pretty much the size that I want it. And now I can figure out the top and the bottom. There's like a little lip at the top and the bottom. So I'm just going to trim that bottom piece off. I just ran my finger on there to give myself a little line. And now it fits perfectly and it's time to mod podge that on. So I'm just going to take some Mod Podge. And put it and then apply the printable. I just printed this out on regular printer paper. Just a regular ink yet. I don't have a fancy laser printer. This is just a Walmart HP printer. I think I paid $50 for it probably two or three years ago and it prints just fine. And now I have him on there and I'm just going to let that dry. Once that's dry I'm going to come along on the edges and just kind of sand off the excess on the printable. I'm not worried about the paint chipping off. Like I said we're going to go over this again. So I'm not stressed about the paint coming off. I'm going to make sure that I get all of that off. And then I am going to take some gray paint and some white paint that I kind of mix together. I used the background from the snowman printable to decide the color. So as I was mixing the gray and the white I wanted it to match the front of the printable. So I took the part of the printable that grey colour and then went around and just dobbed that all over using a stencil sponger. Or pouncer. Everybody calls it something different. Now I'm just kind of going around where the snowman is. Making sure that I covered the whole entire thing. Kind of encasing the snowman almost in like an oval shape. So it kind of looks like he's framed out. And now I am going to repeat that same process using some faux snow I'm going to go around just the front right over the edges and I want to make sure that I kind of frame out the snowman with this so I'm just going to go all the way around I'm just using some Aileen's glitter snow and a paint brush and just kind of blotting it on there going all the way around. I want to get all the edges. I also end up doing the whole top and I kind of made it so it drip down the sides on the edges at the top also. And this stuff can be kind of tricky to work with but it works really good if you use a paint brush you can also use a palette knife those work great for this too but I prefer a paint brush so I'm just going around and getting that whole area all framed in and then I'm going to add some glitter right on top of that glitter snow And as you can see I did the whole top. And now I'm going to take some enchanted shimmer. And I'm just going to highlight some of the aspects of the snowman with this. I'm going to do the scarf and the hat. And then I end up putting a little on the trees and a little bit on each one of his buttons and then I kind of outlined his body with the enchanted shimmer also. So just kind of going really slow around there. I don't want to do the whole thing. But I definitely want to highlight some of the pretty features. Make sure I get all those ends of the scarf. And I'm going to do his hat. And this is just going to make it so it has a glittered look on those pieces. Kinda like iridescent. And it's kind of hard to see on camera but they're there when you're there in person so you can kind of see it's a little shimmery on those spots and as you can see I did around all of the edges. Next I'm going to take this pom pom ribbon and I'm going to tie this right around the top and I thought it kind of look like snowballs so I kind of thought this was a good ribbon for this project. Just going to let that hang over the side and trim off the excess. And then I'm going to pop that little cylinder thing back in. So like a little vial. And then I'm just going to add some greenery to the top. So I just picked out some greeneries that I cut off some picks that I had. And then these white berries. Gonna add those in there. Kind of arrange it how I wanted to look. And that is it. This project is done. I absolutely love how this turned out. I think he is so super cute. I love this printable. You can find it in my shop. And I love the green everything just kind of flowed together with this project. I hope this inspires you to see things at a thrift store differently. Thank you for watching and don't forget to spread the chaos.
