How to show texture in food photography | Food photography tips | My Food Lens
The texture of food is one of the first things that draws us in. When texture is shown beautifully in a photograph the viewer can literally taste the food just by looking at the picture. Lighting is key. It is a deal breaker in conveying the texture of food, try these food photography tips; • By placing the food at a diagonal to the light, the light brushes the edges of the cross-section and creates shadows. • The play of those highlights and shadows then creates contrast. • And it is that contrast that brings out the texture. • Too much or too little light on the cross-section changes the way texture appears. If you like food photos of glossy chocolate or crumbly cookies or luscious hummus - it is their texture in the photo, but backstage, it is actually light doing it's magic. T
