30K views · 2.1K reactions | My top 5 tips for sewing bias garments: . 1. Take time laying out your fabric, making sure it’s flat and perfectly straight. . 2. Place all pattern pieces on one layer of fabric, don’t place any on the fold. . 3. Let the garment hang over night (at least) before hemming. All the seams and fabric need time to drop. . 4. Be gentle when pressing the seams. Press up and down, don’t iron and pull on the seams. . 5. Lastly, if your garment has a centre front or centre back seam, cut the bias in opposite directions on your pattern pieces. . Good luck! Bias cut is great - give it a go ✨😉👌🏻 . 363K views · 20K reactions | If you’re working with a slightly curved hem and struggling with the excess fabric when hemming you need to flip your garment over and sew it from the right side. . I hear you saying “Lorenza I can’t sew from the right side, I can’t see where I’m sewing?!”
Yes. You. Can. Measure, mark and sew - it’s going to be fine. . Mark your hem with chalk/ pen, pin it and don’t worry about the bulk. Take it to your machine and sew it from the right side, so the hem is facing down. What will happen is those amazing feed dogs on your machine will take through the excess fabric faster than the top of the garment and your excess fabric won’t be an issue. . Bonus point being that the needle stitch is a nicer looking stitch so you get to see that on the right side of your garment too. . I sewed this on a domestic machine so you can see I’m not cheating with a fancy industrial machine. . Any questions? Let me know ❤️✨🪡✂️ . PLEASE NOTE: when I say ‘right hand side’ I meant to say only ‘right side’. . . . My name is Lorenza, I studied fashion and have been sewing for 25 years. They come in many shapes and sizes and my favorite use is turning a very sharp corner. You're simply just going to flip to the wrong set of fabric. Fold the ends of the seam allowance on top of each other, slip your tweezer in between the layers of fabric and flip to the right side and look at that sharp corner. Next is the humble knit pick or a very teeny tiny loop turner if you have one of those. I love using these to my serger tail so I don't have to trim them and risk the end frame. Flip to the wrong side of the garment, slip the knit pick in between the serger stitches and grab the tail and pull it through and it will hide and secure. And last up is the bod kit. I know these are very common and they are very easy to use but I never see anybody talking about them for how many uses they have. I primarily use mine for threading elastic and drawstrings into waistbands and I also use them to thread elastic into casings as well. Us.
