LEOMINSTER, MA — On a side street not far from the center of the city, an inscribed stone next to a dilapidated house notes the efforts by a local abolitionist couple in the fight that a decade later would lead to the Civil War. Soon, that marker at 21 Franklin St. and the house that goes with it may be restored to honor the memory of Frances and Jonathan Drake, who helped in the rescue of fugitive slave Shadrach Minkins and welcomed him into their home at that address.
