However, if you are buying garlic from the supermarket now, chances are they will have been kept in a cold store. How to grow garlic from the supermarket. I grow them like this every year and have had great crops. I like this method of getting them growing prior to planting, because I have wet, clay soil and if I just plant the cloves in autumn they tend to just rot. This is a much better way of giving them a head start. Garlic likes fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Plant the cloves 12cm (5in) apart. Cloves should be at a depth of about 2cm below the surface. Each clove should form a new bulb with lots more cloves. And finally, sorry, I know many of you will have seen this before. But autumn

We just wanted to post this quick tip about wrapping your stems since a lot of folks have asked about this, and it’s nice to know how you’re going to train your plants before you actually need to start doing it! 🍅 It’s actually very easy, just gently wrap each main stem around one of your pieces of twine. The stems are very flexible when the growth is new, so doing it regularly pays off. It’ll take about 5-10 minutes a week to keep them perfectly tidy.
