Questions/prompts to help develop clone trooper ocs

  • How did they get their name? Was it given to them, or did they choose it?
  • How do they paint their armor? Why did they choose that design?
  • What kinds of scars do they have? How did they earn their first one?
  • How do they react to the loss of a sibling they were close to?
  • Do they have plans or dreams for after the war? If so, what?
  • Do they have any tattoos or piercings? If so, what? When did they get them, and why?
  • Are they a good liar? What's the biggest lie they've told, and did they get away with it?
  • What's the most difficult campaign or mission they've been on? Was it a success?
  • What's their greatest fear? How would they react to encountering it?
  • Is there someone they look up to? Is it someone they know personally? Why do they look up to that person?
  • What's their proudest moment?
  • What's an embarrassing moment they still remember years later?

Sometimes I think about how and why some people had such a *bad* reaction to the end of Steven Universe, specifically in regards to the Diamonds living.

Even though they no longer are causing harm to others and are able to actually undo some of their previous harm by living, some folks reacted as though this ending was somehow morally suspect. Morally bankrupt, even.

And I think it might be because so many of us were raised on a very specific kind of kids media trope:

They all fall to their deaths.

Disney loves chucking their bad guys off cliffs. And it makes sense- in a moral framework where villains *must* be punished (regardless of whether their death will actually prevent further harm or not), but killing of any kind is morally bad for the hero, the narrative must find a way to kill the villain without the protagonists doing a murder.

It's a moral assumption that a person can *deserve* to die, that it is cosmically just for them to die, that them dying is evidence that the story itself is morally good and correct. Scar *deserves* to die, but it would be bad for Simba to kill him. So....cliff. (edit: yes, cliff then hyenas. But cliff first. Lol.)

Steven Universe, whatever else it's faults, took a step back and said "but if killing people is bad, then people dying is bad", and instead of dropping White Diamond off a cliff, asked "what would actual *restorative*, not punitive, justice look like? What would actual reparations mean here? If the goal is to heal, not just to punish, how do we handle those who have done harm?" And then did that.

Which I think is interesting, and that there was pushback against it is interesting.

It also reminds me of the folks who get very weird about Aang not killing Ozai at the end of Avatar. And like, Ozai still gets chucked in prison, so it doesn't even push back on our cultural ideas of punitive justice *that much.* and still, I've seen people get real mad that the child monk who is the last survivor of a genocide that wiped out his entire pacifist culture didn't do a murder.

So one of the cool and interesting ways ‘Steven Universe’ used to try and balance being both a series of 11-minutes episodes that each have their own satisfying emotional resolution and being an overarching story with complicated character arcs that take multiple seasons to resolve is the… I’m going to call it the ‘Not Quite Right Lesson’ episodes. Episodes where a character kinda learns a Very Important Lesson… but a more careful and retrospective look at the situation shows that what they learned is not Quite the Right Thing for them. They internalized something in that adventure which just ended up causing more Emotional Troubles for themselves farther down the line.

‘The Test’ is the most classic example.

As a standalone thing, it’s just a sweet episode about Steven learning to accept that his caretakers are also flawed and confused and figuring this shit up as they’re going along just like he is, and then doing a nice thing for their sake.

But looking back at this episode, it is quite obviously the nadir of Steven appointing himself as the Family Therapist and repressing all of his problems so he could better help the Gems’ with theirs. Like, there have been some early warning signs for this Complex, but this episode is the one that really cemented that idea in his mind and probably the reason it took him like the Entire Rest of the Show Including a Post-Finale Season to really untangle it.

But… also, I’ve been thinking a lot about the episode right after that, ‘Future Vision’. I think it’s also a very important ‘Not Quite Right Lesson Episode’ for the character of Garnet, and to some extent, the Crystal Gems as a whole. In many ways, it is to the CGs' character arcs' what 'the Test' is to Steven's.

So in this episode, Garnet reveals to Steven the fact that she has Future Vision. She hoped that telling Steven a little bit more about herself and being honest with him will lead to a greater understanding and a greater bond between them… but it backfired. It just led Steven to become a total paranoid, terrified wreck stuck in a total existential crisis.

And it seems like the lesson Garnet learned is that… she should’ve never taken that risk at all. That it would’ve been better for everyone if she just kept Steven ignorant of the truth forever.

Extremely reinforced with the ending of the episode, where Garnet chooses to once again hide an uncomfortable truth (that he just came very close to dying again) from Steven, for the sake of his own ‘peace of mind’.

So, like, the Gems were already hiding uncomfortable truths from Steven since day one. “If you could only know what we really are” and all of that. But I think… With the actual truth of Homeworld encroaching on them more and more at this point of the story arc, this would’ve been a great time for the Gems to reconsider their attitude and actually Explain to Steven What the Hell is Going On.

But instead, I think Garnet saw the events of ‘Future Vision’ as a reinforcement of the idea that there’s just some things Steven is Better Off Not Knowing. Actually being frank with him about Homeworld and the Diamonds and the War right there and then, that would have just overwhelmed Steven with fears and worries and would’ve ended up doing nothing but hurting him. And Garnet can’t accept that possibility, not again.

And so, Garnet, alongside Amethyst and Pearl, keep all these truths from Steven as long as possible. Only revealing bits of information when they have to. For Amethyst it’s about her emotionally-evasive attitude (also, she legit doesn’t know all of that stuff herself). For Pearl it’s about how she learned to romanticize Rose’s own fucked-up obsession with secrets. For Garnet, with her usually very direct attitude and preference for the most straightforward solutions, I think it’s very much the events of ‘Future Vision’ that were still playing in her head every time she had the choice to actually Explain something to Steven and decided not to.

But that, indeed, was Not Quite the Right Lesson. While being bluntly and directly told by Garnet all about the Many Ways He Could Die caused Steven to go into an anxiety spiral and an existential crisis for an episode - the way the Gems have been consistently secretive and evasive with Steven ended up causing him so much more emotional grief to him in the long run. As all of these secrets ended up revealed to him in the most surprising, dramatic and traumatizing way possible.

And the secretive attitudes ended up driving a wedge between Steven and the Gems.

Even after they promised to be more honest with him. Because the sight of Steven crying on the roof that day is one that Garnet can easily move away from. Because Garnet’s Not Quite Right Lesson was almost as difficult for her to unlearn as Steven’s own.

But after the big confrontation at the start of the Zoo Arc, Garnet ended up being the most upfront about the Crystal Gems’ history. Almost overeager to share what she knows about the past.

I mean also, again, Amethyst just has less to tell and Pearl is hiding secrets for reasons beyond her control - but I think it’s also important to consider from the perspective of Garnet’s arc.

Because the fallout of the Pink Diamond Reveal is very much centered around Garnet (or, well, Ruby and Sapphire). That was the Truth that was hidden from her 'for her own good'. And at the end of the day, despite all the grief that unveiling that truth has caused

It has also brought them, all of them, a lot closer.

There's a reason why 'the Truth' is Garnet's Final Missing Piece in the movie. It is as central to her character arc in the series as Lesbian AngstTM grief over lost love is to Pearl.

And still, some remnants of the Trauma of 'Future Vision' remained...

After all, even the very last episode of 'Future' was centered around the Gems once again trying to hide things from Steven (at that case, their turmoil about him leaving) for his own sake

Even though it once again just caused Steven a whole lot of grief.

It's maybe notable that at the end of this episode, Garnet, once again, tells Steven what's waiting for him in his Future...

YESSS EXACTLY

Viktor Bot?

I'm new to making bots, but figured I would share him. It would be nice to have others help program him to know piltover and etc. Inspired by the idea of you/oc having been real close friends with him and sharing a childhood in Zaun. But once he officially began sneaking into the academy, you got left behind. Now one way or another, you found yourself sneaking in, leaving notes behind of your brilliance and driving him mad in the process as to who you were. Until now when you both reunite. May friendship and possibly love blossom.

⊹ To get to your dorm, you will have to go up one of the two staircases in the Hufflepuff Common Room, each on the opposite side of the other. They will take you to your dorms. And after going upstairs, you may find the dorm room you were given.

⊹ Upon entering your dorm, you will find a round room, with stone walls and wooden floor. With round doors and half-circled windows with yellow curtains surrounding the room, overlooking the school grounds.

⊹ Each student has in their dorms a few beds, wooden furniture to store personal belongings, yellow and black carpets, school trunks, plants, and a stove in the centre of the room, which, if necessary, can be turned on to heat the space. Cooper lamps on their dressers and wooden boards cast a warm light in the room, and cooper bed warmers hung on the walls which made the floor warm.

⊹ There is one lavatory connected to each dorm, as well as two communal bathrooms, both on the different sides of the common room, one in the boys’ and the other in the girls’ dormitories.

⊹ You will share the dorm with 4 or 5 other students from the same house and year you’re in.

⊹ To find the Ravenclaw Common Room at the top of Ravenclaw Tower, the student must climb the stairs and proceed to a long spiral staircase on the west side of the castle on the 5th floor. At the bottom of the stairs, they should locate a large door in front of them, the same one that will lead them to the common room. But either way, there is neither a doorknob nor a keyhole, instead, there’s an enchanted bronze knocker shaped like an eagle. The knocker will give a logical riddle. If answered correctly, the door will open. However, if answered incorrectly, they will have to wait until someone knows the right answer.

↳ Can anyone find Professor Flitwick? For Merlin’s sake, how are we waiting here for forty minutes without anyone having answered the riddle right!?

⊹ Upon entering through the enchanted door, you will see our large circular-shaped Common Room. The blue and bronze silks hanging on the walls and the domed ceiling painted to look like the night sky help give the common room its awe-inspiring aura. It could also be because of our own library with the white marble statue of the founder of our house that stands in front of it. But honestly, it might be because of the graceful arched windows that surround the space that have one of the best views in the school. The mountains, Black Lake, the Forbidden Forest and even the neighbouring village of Hogsmeade can be seen from Ravenclaw Tower.

⊹ Here is a pleasing place to stay. We see people studying, painting, reading and doing other activities throughout the day. Even at night! Well… most Ravenclaws are night owls, so they’ll be out here doing whatever very late at night, sitting in chairs, on the couch, or on the floor. This remains until Professor Flitwick tells them to go to bed.

⊹ The two stairs that surround the library and the statue of Rowena Ravenclaw lead to the dormitories. Feel free to explore your dorm whenever you want!

↳ Ravenclaws, don’t forget to check the notice board! We will have some activities this month. Oh, the book club also asked to remind you that they are accepting book recommendations for the next meeting!

⊹ Professor Flitwick hates to admit that he has lost track of time indeed too many times talking to his students in the common room. It could happen to be past curfew, and he’d still be passionately talking about times when he was a duelist.

⊹ I think the ceiling would sometimes come to life, and it would look like the ceiling in the great hall. It would only do this on specific days, and it wouldn’t look like the same sky as before. Sometimes it showed a sky full of stars, other times dark and cloudy one. On very rare occasions, it would also show the Milky Way.

MOVING BOOKS!!! In their library, the books shifted positions trying to rearrange themselves. Plus, whenever you’re looking for something to read or want a book recommendation, you can always ask to Rowena Ravenclaw statue. A book will fly into her hand and the statue will hold out the book for you to pick up. After that, the statue will return to its original pose.

⊹ The knocker gives tougher questions when it’s after curfew.

⊹ To find the Hufflepuff Common Room, which is in the basement of Hufflepuff, the student must go down the same corridor that gives access to the kitchen and go to the right side of it, where they will find a pile of large barrels, which are stacked in a shadowy stone recess.

⊹ Now, the only way to open the passage is by tapping barrel 2 from the bottom, in the middle of the second role, in the rhythm of “Helga Hufflepuff”. The wrong barrel, rhythm, or number of tapping will result in a lead bursting off and soaking the trespasser in vinegar.

↳ Professor Sprout asks for students to stop freaking out for not getting the right beat on the barrel. We get it, you’re soaking wet. But try to relax, for Merlin’s sake! You’re making a trail of vinegar and house-elves keep slipping on it!

⊹ When you’ve passed the sloping earthy passage inside the barrel and finally entered the door of the Rabbit Hole, you’ll see our circular-shaped common room. Here is a very welcoming place to stay. People usually lie on couches trying to snuggle up (which is why we have a ton of blankets) or tending to the sheer number of plants that surround the room.

⊹ Is true that we are in the basement, but it always feels sunny here! There are windows in the common room that look out onto the rippling grass and dandelions of the school grounds, and the common room itself never gets too hot in the summer, and never too cold in the winter either! Here it is always full of colourful flowers, plants and various cacti that do not stop dancing for the students. Oh, and speaking of plants, I might remind you, don’t forget to feed the carnivorous plants!

⊹ There are two round rabbit hole doors under the stairs. They’ll take you to the girls’ and boys’ dorms, and now that you know the common room, you’re free to go to your dorm whenever you like!

↳ Hufflepuff students, please don’t try to play with the Whomping Willow! We all know that is very intriguing, but it’s a big old tree that doesn’t want to be disturbed and has very little patience.

⊹ There are some barrels in the common room. When there is a party some students fill them with butterbeer.

⊹ I think that the common room has two floors. I don’t know why, but it just makes sense to me that it would be because of the large number of students.

⊹ As we know, Helga Hufflepuff provided the house-elves to work in the kitchens, where they would be protected from any mistreatment. She also spent a lot of her time in the kitchen making her recipes. That’s why there’s a small barrel passage on the wall of the common room, which leads you to the kitchen, and is only used by house-elves, who bring one of Helga’s food recipes every day to the Hufflepuff students. It’s like a thank you to the founder.

The Jedi mind trick is definitely one of the weirder bits of Star Wars canon. It takes a lot of mental gymnastics to make it not horrifying, but fortunately I'm a big fan of cerebral calisthenics.

I do think that part of the problem is fan inflation of its power level, though.

Because immediately after being introduced to the Jedi mind trick, we see it not work.

We...remember that, right? That's the whole reason Obi-Wan starts the Severed Limbs of Star Wars club. He tried to tell the guy that they weren't worth his trouble, and it didn't work.

Even the famous scene with the stormtroopers--right after that, you can see the troopers getting alerted to their presence anyway. It's not some force of perfect control. Once the encounter was over, influence didn't persist.

My own personal headcanon--which you don't have to like, this is just my fanwank--is that you can't mind trick someone into something they weren't already inclined to do.

A minimum-wage guard? He genuinely does not want to have to search you or take your weapon. It'd be a pain in the ass and it would slow down business if you make a scene and god forbid you ask to talk to his manager. So it's possible to mind trick the guard into thinking he already checked, or that 'obviously' you don't have anything on you, or that you're a VIP he's not going to pat down. All normal things that already happen in the course of his job.

But a guy who comes to a bar in a bad mood, looking for a fight? There's no redirecting that. He's there for the fight. You can't trick him into thinking that you're not worth messing with because he was never using that metric to begin with.

Basically it's like bribery, but skipping the money part. This is what fits the explanation of "only affects the weak-willed" best, I think. You could sway an opportunistic pirate who's already backstabbing someone for profit, but not a dedicated guard who looks at his duty as an honor and will never cut corners. And there's got to be a narrative reason they don't constantly use mind tricks, right?

"Would you let me skip security if I gave you 200$? Alright, then let me skip it anyway."

This doesn't mean that it's impossible to use the mind trick unethically, of course, but I think it's worth keeping in mind that it's canonically very limited in power and scope.

I mean, the one I time I can think of that has Jedi trying to mind trick someone who definitely isn't going to be swayed and has no reason to let himself be convinced, it's Mace, Anakin and Obi-Wan using it on Cad Bane in the Holocron arc.

Not only is it framed as a really, really shitty, awful thing, it's also very clearly nothing like the usual mind trick, and it still doesn't work, with three of the most powerful Jedi of the generation focusing on one mind all at once. If Anakin Skywalker, Mace Windu and Obi-Wan Kenobi working together can't actually get someone who really doesn't want to do something to do it anyway, it seems like a pretty good indication that a mind trick isn't that powerful, and that mind tricks are usually not the kind of violation that one was.

I like this too because it defines in opposition what the dark side version would be, which is using the augmented power of the dark side to coerce someone to act against their will.

Defining the Jedi as working with the grain of the Force and within a limited scope makes it possible to define the Sith as working against the natural inclination of people and the Force using their unnatural level of power.

So I think the trio of most powerful Jedi Masters couldn’t mind trick Bane because they did not draw on the dark side. No matter how much power of the light they used, they are only able to induce/halt in accordance with the natural flow of things, not warp or reverse its direction.

Maybe the three of them together hoped to be able to tug on any latent inclination that Bane had to obey, but he just didn’t have enough mixed feelings for them to work with, so it failed.

There’s this really interesting moment from Choose Your Destiny: An Obi-Wan & Anakin Adventure where we get Anakin’s point of view when he tries to connect with a whale after he’s seen Obi-Wan do the same thing to really great success:

The way it’s shown is to be a connection of minds (the way a Jedi Mind Trick would also be a connection of minds), that it’s about convincing the whale to help them, not forcing them or controlling them. And when Anakin tries to force his way through that connection, to go against the grain of the whale’s own innate desires, the whale wildly recoils and goes on a rampage.  It doesn’t work. It’s about soothing, about connecting calmly to the other life form, and the Jedi practice that:

(Dooku: Jedi Lost) Or take Elan Sleazebaggano from Attack of the Clones, where Obi-Wan goes to get a drink and gently waves Elan away to go rethink his life.  It’s the same principle--connecting to someone and trying to convince them to do something. And in the comics? We see that Elan does does go home and rethink his life. We see that he did really want something else for himself!

(Star Wars Adventures #25) It makes sense that it was something he actually wanted to do in the first place, that Obi-Wan was going with the grain of what he desired already, not overriding him. Then you contrast it with the situation with Cad Bane--where they had both talent AND raw power on their side--where they couldn’t force him to do something that was against his will, even when they were leaning so heavily on him.  It just didn’t work.  They would have had to draw on the dark side to force their way in and Jedi just can’t do that without consequences even beyond this one situation, the dark side always comes with consequences, that’s baked into the foundation of the worldbuilding. I’ve always found it telling that it’s classically Obi-Wan Kenobi we see using the Mind Trick, the character we also know to be The Negotiator, the guy who is charming and can get people to work with him by connecting with them, by talking to them.  Of course that’s the guy that’s good at the Jedi Mind Trick, which seems to be the psychic version of putting on your charming pants and smiling with good humor and a gentle touch, to convince someone of something that they really kind of wanted to go along with anyway.

100 Self Care tips:

  1. Drink green tea once a day. Besides water, it is one of the healthiest beverages there is, as it is loaded with antioxidants and nutriants known to improve brain function, fat loss, a lower risk of cancer and many other incredible benefits.
  2. Take your make up off before you go to sleep every night, despite how tired you may be. Your skin will thank you for it.
  3. Don’t overthink, just let things occur as they are meant to, for everything happens for a reason.
  4. Apply castor oil to your eyebrows and eyelashes before bed. It is filled with nutrients to make hair thicker, longer, softer and stronger.
  5. Make time for people you love.
  6. Exfoliate your skin at least three times a week with a soft scrub. It rids the body of any dry, dull skin by removing dead skin cells from the surface of the epidermis. By removing these dead cells, exfoliation can help keep pores from becoming clogged and leaves skin feeling refreshed and clean.
  7. Always tell the truth. You can’t go far wrong.
  8. Try to eat at least one piece of fruit and veg a day, and a smoothie.
  9. Pick your arguments carefully. Not everything needs your opinion or reaction.
  10. Read. Not only does it make you intellectually smarter, it can also boost your brain power. Just like going for a jog, reading exercises your cardiovascular system and regularly improves memory function by giving your brain a good work out.
  11. Steam baths for your face are essential.
  12. Create a feel good playlist and dance to it in your pyjamas.
  13. Wash your make up brushes regularly. And your phone screen. And your pillow cases. Dirty surfaces that are in contact with your face are a breeding ground for bacteria.
  14. All you can do is learn your lesson. Don’t wish you hadn’t done things.
  15. Take a lavender bath every so often to help relieve stress and tension.
  16. Exercise.
  17. Rosehip oil is great for skin. It is the essential fatty acids in rosehip oil that quench dry, sun damaged skin and help to improve the appearance of burns, scars, wrinkles and stretch marks.
  18. Never base your intelligence, self worth or beauty based on others opinions.
  19. Listen to your mom. She knows.
  20. Drink water daily, at least one litre.
  21. Don’t gossip.
  22. Try silk pillowcases. Not only are they luxurious and comfy, but they also reduce bed head, split ends and retain moisture on your skin.
  23. Don’t put coconut oil directly onto your face. It can clog your pores and highten break outs. Try jojoba oil instead.
  24. Stop comparing yourself to others.
  25. Do not wash your vagina with soap. It can affect the healthy balance of bacteria and pH levels in the vagina and cause irritation.
  26. Stay away from social media.
  27. Don’t read too much into beauty magazines. The girl on the cover doesn’t even look like the girl on the cover.
  28. Meditate.
  29. Clean your room once every two weeks. An organised, tidy surrounding helps create an organised, tidy mind.
  30. You’ll never grow if you stay stuck in the past.
  31. Don’t apply lemon juice to your face. It’s highly acidic and can damage your skin.
  32. Wear sunscreen when tanning.
  33. Inhale the good, exhale the bad.
  34. Start a compliments file. Document the great things people say about you to read later.
  35. Go cloud-watching. Lie on your back, relax, and watch the sky.
  36. Change up the way you make decisions. Decide something with your heart if you usually use your head. Or if you tend to go with your heart, decide with your head.
  37. After washing your hair, quickly rinse in ice cold water. While warm water opens the hair cuticles to allow shampoo and conditioner to do their job, cold water then helps to close the cuticle and seal in moisture from the conditioner, which helps your hair look shiny and healthy.
  38. Get out of your comfort zone, even if it’s just talking to a stranger at the bus stop.
  39. Always keep your summer makeup minimal. Minimal and sheer makeup is the way to go when it’s hot and muggy outside.
  40. Take another route to work. Mixing up your routine in small ways creates new neural pathways in the brain to keep it healthy.
  41. Spend time with your grandparents.
  42. Always allow about two fingers from your nose to where blush starts
  43. Be still. Sit somewhere green, and be quiet for a few minutes.
  44. Help someone. Carry a bag, open a door, or pick up an extra carton of milk for a neighbor. Helping others helps you.
  45. Wear white or cream eyeliner on your water line to make eyes appear wider and less red.
  46. Don’t regret.
  47. Get your hair trimmed every six weeks.
  48. Splurge a little. Buy a small luxury as a way of valuing yourself.
  49. For acne-prone skin, look for a cleanser with salycilic acid or benzoyl peroxide.
  50. Match up - underwear, pjyjamas, etc.
  51. Embrace your imperfections.
  52. When choosing a red lipstick, you just want to remember to get one that looks good with your undertone. If you have a warm undertone, then go for warmer reds, and if you have a cool undertone, then go cooler.
  53. Do a mini-declutter. Recycle three things from your wardrobe that you don’t love or regularly wear.
  54. Try not to pick at zits. The bacteria on your fingers will create more redness, and any attempt at popping will make things worse.
  55. If you have greasy hair, avoid directly conditioning roots and condition from your ear down to ends.
  56. Don’t complain about something if you aren’t going to change it.
  57. Create a deliberate habit, and routinize something small in your life by doing it in the same way each day, for example what you wear on Tuesdays, or picking up the dental floss before you brush.
  58. Try to avoid washing your hair everyday. Constant shampooing leaves hair dry and your scalp will create more oils to compensate for the loss of moisture. Instead, use a dry shampoo and style your hair into a braid or ponytail when it’s a bit more oily.
  59. Be selfish. Do one thing today just because it makes you happy.
  60. Less is more.
  61. Do yoga.
  62. Exfoliate before applying self tan to get rid of dead skin. Tanning products tend to cling to dryer areas and rougher areas, like your knees and elbows, so make sure they’re moisturized first.
  63. Take a daily multi-vitamin.
  64. Write poetry.
  65. When using an eyeshadow primer, only place the primer where you’ll be adding colour.
  66. Go for a drive just because.
  67. Use a pumice stone on your feet after the shower to get rid of calluses.
  68. Make one small change to your diet for the week. Drink an extra glass of water each day, or have an extra portion of veggies each meal.
  69. Inhale an upbeat smell. Try peppermint to suppress food cravings and boost mood and motivation.
  70. Read some more.
  71. Watch Friends.
  72. Eat carrots. The nutrients in carrots can improve the health of your eyes, skin, hair, nails and more through helping to detoxify your system and build new cells. They also kill harmful germs in the mouth and help prevent tooth decay.
  73. Check in with your emotions. Sit quietly and just name without judgment what you’re feeling.
  74. Choose who you spend your time with today. Hang out with “Radiators” who emit enthusiasm and positivity, and not “Drains” whose pessimism and negativity robs energy.
  75. Replace mascara and liquid eyeliner every 3-4 months.
  76. Use a cream or milk cleanser to wash your face. Creams are less drying than gels.
  77. Maintain and nurture your faith and spirituality.
  78. Learn to trust your intuition.
  79. Camouflage roots by zigzagging your part rather than making it straight.
  80. Watch the sunrise.
  81. Brush hair from roots to ends nightly. This distributes natural oils throughout the shaft and gives hair a healthy sheen.
  82. Tweeze your eyebrows in the direction the hair grows.
  83. Cherish good friends. Friends who’ve seen you at your worst, and love you even more for it. Friends you can be sick and miserable around and yet all they seem to do is make you laugh. Those friends are priceless.
  84. Laugh.
  85. A good perfume should consist of balanced blend of notes arranged in a way that creates harmonious accord.
  86. Forgive yourself. Forgive others. Forgiveness is one of our most powerful allies. Forgive the people in your life who harmed you and forgive yourself for your own mistakes and you will liberate yourself from pain, anger, resentment and negativity. Anger, grudges and resentment hurt no one more than the person holding them.
  87. Take photographs.
  88. Do not rub perfume. Dab instead.
  89. Allow yourself to feel. Sometimes you’ll get down, really down. Sometimes you’ll get hurt. And you won’t want to leave the couch. It’s okay. Let yourself sulk, get it all out of your system. Don’t fight it because “what you resist, persists.” So don’t resist. The sooner you get it all out the sooner you can move on.
  90. For smudge-proof eye makeup, take blotting tissue to remove any oil or any excess makeup from the eye area. Then, apply a small dab of cream concealer to hold things in place.
  91. Help your parents around the house.
  92. Shop at charity shops. No one will have the same as you and you’re giving to charity!
  93. Cut down on eating out.
  94. To make your cheek bones appear higher, use bronzer under the cheekbone and highlighter on the actual cheekbone, and remember to blend.
  95. You don’t have to shave your pubic hair.
  96. Sunscreens that claim to provide “all-day protection” and “water resistance” are not reliable. Reapply all sunscreens at least every 2-3 hours.
  97. Get a good nights sleep. At least 7 hours.
  98. Go for a run.
  99. The antihistamines in allergy medicine dry out the skin, so skip heavy foundation during allergy season. Instead, use a tinted moisturizer or BB cream.
  100. Be you.

How to deal with street cats

  1. Be nice to them. They’re doing an important job. Do not chase them, grab them or harass them.
  2. Always bring some food with you, it’s just polite.
  3. Approach them slowly, and let them come to you. Sometimes you might have to sit on the ground and tap it a few times. This is what you brought food for.
  4. At some point after you have managed to touch the cat it will turn and sprint away. This is when you start following it.
  5. Cats do not want you to get lost, but they can be fast. Never lose sight of them, you should stay with it until your return. This might still look like your usual street but you are in a liminal space already. Try not to get lost.

(NOTE: do not follow cats with mismatched eyes. You can pet them, but the moment they run away you should immediately turn your back to them and walk in the opposite direction.)

Black cats:

  1. Follow black cats into the floor-level vents. Don’t worry, there are many spider webs but there aren’t any spiders.
  2. Do not lose sight of them in the dark.
  3. When you emerge, you will be in the same street you were before, but there will be no people to be found.
  4. Do not stray, follow your cat. Sometimes it might want to just catch a bird and go back. Do not stay longer just to explore.
  5.  If you hear the sound of a crowd in the distance do not try to follow it. Your cat will never lead you there.
  6. You can take anything with you but you cannot take pictures or record video or sound.

Orange cats:

  1. Orange cats hang around train stations for a reason. Follow them into the next train. You will not need a ticket.
  2. If the cat wants you to scratch its ears during the trip, do it.
  3. The landscape will not look like the area around your town.  Do not panic - this is normal.
  4. The people in the train will not speak a language you understand or recognize, but they will have clothes and devices similar to yours. They are usually nice.
  5. Get down at the same stop as your cat. You will not understand the name of the station, and no one will get off in the same station as yours. You should follow your cat, but it will never leave the station. Follow it into the next train to get back home.
  6. Never stay in the train. Never wait for the last stop.

White cats:

  1. White cats live on the edges. They will take you to many places but at the same time they will never take you anywhere.
  2. If you meet them during the night-time, the sun will start rising, regardless of the time. If you meet them during the daytime, the sun will start setting. It will stay like this for the duration of the trip.
  3. Follow them to the edge of a forest that smells like honeysuckle. You will hear the song of birds and the flow of water. You should never stray and enter the forest on your own. Your cat will not follow.
  4. Follow them to a building where a fancy party is being held at. Through the windows you can see the food and the champagne. The guests will ask you to join them, but your cat will keep walking. Do not accept the invitation, and never eat the food or drink the champagne.
  5. Follow them along the edge of a swimming pool. People will be bathing, playing and laughing. It will be hot, regardless of the season. Do not step too close to the edge, because they will try to grab your ankles and pull you into the water. Keep walking.
  6. Once the sun finally sets or rises you will be back home. Never enter your house until you are completely sure the sky is changing.

Calico cats:

  1. Calico cats are the safest. They will follow you instead.
  2. Walk around your town and you will see everything is the same, but you will not be able to make the connections between the streets.
  3. If you want to go to a certain place you will find it is no longer where it used to be.
  4. You will not recognize anyone. Every single person in the street will be a stranger. They are not dangerous but do not look them directly in the eyes.
  5. Never try to find your house. Because you will find it.
  6. When you want to come back take the cat back where you found it. This might be more difficult than you expect.

Remember to always take some food with you, something made of iron, and comfortable shoes.

And remember to always be nice to the cats!

Fantasy Guide to Palaces and How they Work

I'm always being asked how palaces work whether its downstairs, upstairs or accommodation wise. It is a really difficult thing to explain since there are so many different versions. I thought up a great analogy for it. Treat a palace like a hotel with a whole town living in it, because that's technically what it is. So that's what we're going to do.

Accommodation

Accommodation can be a difficult thing to sort both as a writer and a steward. You might have a palace of 200+ bedchambers in which you must house a staff of 500-/+, a varying amount of nobles, the royal family (of a varying amount) and their own households. When assigning rooms it is best to think of a Russian nesting doll. Start from the inside and work your way to the outside.

  • The best rooms go to the monarch, their consort and their children/siblings/parent(s). These chambers would include the bedroom, a drawing room/ common area, a privy, a closet (a small chamber that can be used for prayer or work). They would be furnished with the best cloth, the best candles and whatever furniture brought by the resident since most royal courts travelled from palace to palace. They will also have chambers for their personal servants such as ladies in waiting and grooms.
  • The second best set of rooms would go to the highest ranking nobles/people in the court. These rooms would be less fancy and a little smaller. These would be given to from titled nobility descending from those of Ducal rank (Dukes/Duchesses) or even members of the council such as Thomas Cromwell in Tudor times.
  • The next set would be considerably smaller, perhaps minus a closet or a drawing room. Given to lower nobility.
  • The next level of chambers would be smaller perhaps only the bedroom and a common area given to minor nobles.
  • The last set of rooms would be small and only hold enough room for a bedroom. Servants would have to sleep on the ground on pallets beside their masters.
  • Any other guests at court would have to stay at off-site locations around the palace in the city. Some nobles at houses around major palaces just in case they arrived late or were kicked out of court.

Room Service

Most palace kitchens were in the lower extremities of the building. They would include an area for food preparation, pantries (rooms where they keep the food) and perhaps even a common area for the servants. Food would be cooked in large ovens, rather looking like pizza ovens or on spits over fire pits. The kitchens would turn out food on order of the nobility and royalty which would be brought to the rooms by the noble's own servants. But since royal palaces are so large and microwaves do not exist, the food would likely be cold when it arrived. For larger, more public dinners, the court would gather in the great hall together (for more on this).

Entertainment

If you hoard over a thousand people into a single building, you will have to keep them entertained or else they might start misbehaving, more than usual. Palaces would be well stocked with ways to keep the courtiers occupied.

  • Every palace would have a stable where the residents' horses would be chillin'. Some palaces have parkland around them for hunting and picnicking.
  • Most palaces would have common areas where courtiers would meet to play card games or gossip like a game room.
  • There would be lawns converted for games such as bowling, croquet and tennis.
  • Some palaces like Versailles would have indoor theatres and stages for traveling players to perform pieces for the court.
  • Mediaeval castles would have pits for cockfighting or bear baiting usually outside the main castle on the grounds.

Services

We've spent enough time upstairs. Now lets look at the servants portion of the palace.

  • The local servants (those who serve at the palace all year round) would typically sleep in mass chambers grouped together according to jobs and gender.
  • The stableboys would likely sleep in the stable's hay lofts.
  • The unmarried girls of the castle would be locked in to protect their virtue (a precautionary rule though was frequently broken).
  • The cooks would sleep near the kitchen in order to get to work early as they could or if they had to rise early.
  • Stewards (the main boss of the servants) would have the best accommodation as would the other heads of the different groups of servants including the housekeeper, the chef, the head gardener.
  • Servants who came along with the court would be housed either in close quarters to their masters or on the floor by their bed.
  • The servants have different corridors and staircases to get around the palace without being seen. These would be smaller and plain parts of the palace.

For @innergoldx sorry it took so long
