Laura Fitzachary | Historian 📚 on Instagram: "Fashion History Friday 🪡 Upstairs in the National Museum of Ireland - Archaeology, Dublin is an exhibition on clothing found in the bogs of Ireland - among which stands the Shinrone Gown… What is left of this dress is extremely impressive Despite fragments of the right hanging-sleeve missing, the bottom of the skirt at the front being slightly damaged and 19th century stitching along the back - done to save the dress but actually it ended up weakening the fabric when it was discovered after 1843 I went down to Cangort Bog with @irisharchaeologyfieldschool to have a look, just outside Shinrone where the dress was found It is impeccably tailored with temporary darts at the back hiking the skirts up and down to allow, presumably, for pre
