Hats & Hair Accessories

African men and women adorn their heads in creative and distinctive ways. Combs are used to create an array of magnificent hairstyles. Beads, traditionally, assumed a monetary role, dividing those with means from those without. Heavily beaded capes, skirts, blankets, arm bands, and jewelry were worn to display wealth and position. A complex lexicon of color and pattern played an important role in communication.
