1830s - Fashion Plates

The fourth decade of the 19th century saw a huge silhouette with large gigot sleeves and a widening skirt. In the middle of the decade, the gigot sleeves were replaced with a smaller, thinner sleeve, and the large bonnet previously worn began to be discarded for a smaller version. Bows and ribbons decorated the outfit, and a variety of colors were in fashion.
