Artist Sir Cedric Morris (1889-1982) is to be the subject of two exhibitions in London to run concurrently this spring – one at the Garden Museum in Lambeth and one at the gallery of dealer Philip Mould in Pall Mall.

Though left unfinished until March 1833, Constable based the donkey in this painting on a life study done in December 1815. The corn in the field remains green on the side shaded from the sun, but is ripe elsewhere, suggesting it is set in the month of July. Isabel Constable was the daughter of the famous artist John Constable. In 1888 she left to the Museum the contents of her father’s studio, establishing the V&A as the leading centre for the study of Constable’s work.
