This rare English mourning ring from the Victorian (ca1879) era is quite an unusual piece! Crafted in 18kt gold, the ring is richly detailed, and serves as a fine example of the mourning jewelry tradition. Black and white enameled accents decorate the shoulders of the ring and the shield-shaped seal at the center. Multiple cut out "windows" along the shank expose a band of finely woven hair below, the keepsake of a lost loved one. Completing the design are fine etched details that carry around the entire exterior of the setting. A full commemorative inscription with date of death can be found inside the shank, which reads: "M.A. Vincent, née Mourant, died 2nd Jan. 1879."
