After taking a short break for Diwali, The Bound Publishing Course cohort came back to two very interesting sessions! This week, our participants explored the art of editing poetry and organizing collections in a panel on small poetry presses, and learnt about the unique roles and essential skills in academic publishing. Here are some highlights:  - Dibyajytoti Sarma from Red River and Shloka Shankar from Yavanika Press shared their experiences of starting their poetry presses, their editorial philosophies and how they select works for publication. - Rimina Mohapatra from Routledge Taylor & Francis Group introduced the cohort to the intricate world of academic publishing, how the publishing process works and what kind of roles need specialisations. Week 7 of The Bound Publishing Course focused on something we all love: books! The participants had the opportunity to interact with professionals from different publishing houses and learnt about how book launches work, the book-to-reader pipeline, the secrets of self-publishing and publishing niche books. - Disha Naik emphasized the importance of creative book marketing, backed by research, to stand out in today’s competitive landscape. - Akash G shed light on the different roles within self-publishing, helping attendees identify potential red flags to watch for. - rahul dixit introduced us to the inner workings of a sales team and shared valuable insights on the growing market for non-fiction in India. - Trisha De Niyogi tackled the vital question of what defines a niche book and how to effectively connect those books with the right audiences. To Andal and Meera, I've danced as you. I learnt the language of love through you. I didn't (and still don't) understand what truly blissful madness is; beyond the caging necessity for acceptance. Far beyond that realm, your real surrender and abandon. I'm trying. --- Bound is making me playful again, and unashamedly roll the dice with my creativity. Here's another assignment. This time, it's a brief for the cover design of my book. My one-day-it'll-happen book. I am no designer or visual artist, so there's that, but I do know my book. It's been so powerful, falling in love with my characters. One of our speakers said we should know our characters well enough to know them beyond the book. Wake us up from a deep slumber and ask us, "What would she do?", outside of the narrative on the pages - we should know. And, oh, the joy I say this with, I know. I know my four darling girls.
