Economic Survey: Lend A Hand India model to operationalise Vocational Education We are excited to announce that Lend A Hand India has received significant recognition from the Government of India. Our work has been featured in the Economic Survey of India 2023-24, which is an important annual publication by the Ministry of Finance. Chapter 7.68 of the survey dedicates a paragraph to our model, showcasing not only our approach to Vocational Education but also how civil society can collaborate to implement government policies. Here’s an excerpt from the survey: "7.68: To implement vocational education across the learning ladder, the model of Lend A Hand India (LAHI), an NGO, is a good example. The LAHI model involves civil society’s collaboration with the government to introduce vocational education as a core curriculum component, establish labs, recruit and train vocational trainers, organize internships, and provide placement support. By offering comprehensive vocational education services and engaging with key stakeholders, civil society can actively participate in implementing the innovative features of NEP 2020." This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team. While we never sought such accolades, it is incredibly rewarding to see our efforts acknowledged on such a prestigious platform. We are hopeful about collaborating with many partners from civil society who can play an active role in implementing the novel features of NEP 2020. Find more information at https://lnkd.in/gpx5U2Kp. About us
Lend A Hand India, established in 2006 in Pune, Maharashtra, is a non-profit organization working at the intersection of education and livelihood to provide youth employment and entrepreneurial opportunities. Lend A Hand India focuses on integrating vocational education with mainstream education at secondary and higher secondary education levels (Grades 9-12 and students aged 14-18) to make secondary education more meaningful and interesting for their sustainable livelihoods. We set up labs with requisite tools and equipment, recruit and train qualified vocational trainers, arrange internship opportunities for the students, and get them assessed and certified, followed by placement support. Students are also provided internship opportunities with small or micro-enterprises to help them gain real-life exposure to the “World of Work.” We also bridge the gap between policy and execution by providing technical and project management support to the state governments to scale up vocational education. Our team members are co-located within the state education department, helping the state formulate the policy for vocational education and ensure effective execution. Out of 270+ employees, 50+ Lend A Hand India staff members support 25 states across India. Lend A Hand India's current scale in partnership with state governments is 12,000+ schools with 1.2 million+ students.

At Rajkiya Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya in West Vinod Nagar, East Delhi, German Federal Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Hubertus Heil recently visited our Skills on Wheels bus as part of the 7th intergovernmental consultations (IGC) and the Migration Treaty between India and Germany. The school is a proposed partner for a three-year vocational training program in Germany in the sectors of IT, Healthcare and Engineering. Minister Heil observed students using vocational tools on the bus, experiencing their projects firsthand as they gained hands-on skills that align with global standards. Backed by both governments and industry leaders, the partnership symbolizes a shared commitment to youth empowerment and skill-based migration, ensuring economic growth and welfare in both nations. A large German delegation also joined to explore growth avenues, showcasing the future of international collaboration in vocational education. Balika Koli’s journey shows how internships can transform confidence and open doors for dreams to take flight. From a pathology lab to a grocery store, learning truly knows no bounds. Together, we can shape a skilled tomorrow. #SkillEducation #Internship #SkillIndia
"Internship for High School Students with Local Employers" Meet Balika Koli, a high school student, doing her internship at Bhagare SuperMarket ( a grocery store) facilitated by Lend A Hand India. Balika completed an internship last year as well, at a pathology lab. Last year when we met her, she was very shy to talk, but this time we were surprised to see her increased level of confidence. When asked, she said last internship, which gave her the courage to talk to new people, learn basic pathological terms, and more. We observed that she could easily print bills, take orders from customers, provide the exact quantity of products, prepare small quantities of certain items, and create new barcodes for them. It was so fulfilling to see this drastic positive change in her. Most of the skill development efforts are focused in Urban areas. Such internship can happen anywhere. The employer in this case is based in a small place called Ankoli in Taluka Mohol, Solapur District in Maharashtra. Later, we even got to talk to her mother. Her mother shared that the internship had opened doors for Balika to pursue her interests, and now she is convinced to support Balika in further studies. What can we learn from this story: 1. The youth of India today is just looking for an opportunity. Our job to help them fulfil the dreams. 2. Being a girl, should not prevent her from pursue her dream. Again our job to make it happen. 3. Her first internship was in a Pathology Lab. Second one at a Grocery Store. So learning can happen anytime, anywhere - urban/rural, most equipped training center to a corner shop 4. Inculcating the value that "Work is Worship" ! I am immensely grateful to all the team members of Lend A Hand India making it possible on the ground ! Relationship with the schools and students nurtured by our long time team member Vijay Boda go a long way to make this initiative a success.
