Oreo Banana Pudding - Southern Style 😍 | Oreo, banana pudding | Oreo Banana Pudding - Southern Style 😍 | By Josh Elkin | Today, I'm really excited. I'm making some banana pudding using golden Oreos, bananas, and just to jack up that flavor, some actual banana pudding, Southern Style. One cup of cold milk and I'm also going to use one cup of heavy cream because we want this to be luxurious like, right? Just to take it to a place I'm also going to add a cup of sweet and contense milk because you know Oreos and banana pudding as if it wasn't already sweet right this is going to change the composition of the pudding in a good way okay it's going to make it a lot thicker a lot smoother and when you're dealing with sort of like a layered casserole like this which is what we're doing you want it to be almost cake like if you will. Right? So I'm just going to mix that up using my little mini whisk over here like so. Just until it kind of all comes together and you could feel it like with with the whisk, right? You could feel that the sweetened condensed milk is not necessarily like chunking up. It's kind of come together into one even consistency. Now, We got some of this jello pudding over here. Banana flavor. Now you could use regular vanilla if you want. But when they offer the banana pudding one I don't know why you wouldn't try that. Right? So we're going to do that. And just for fun we're going to double it up. Cos I want this to be big. And bold. And flavourful. Right? Now, going to add the sweet and condensed milk, heavy cream, and milk mixture. And I'm going to use a electric mixer to kind of blend this all together. Make sure you put it in first because if you don't, it'll kind of cause a mess and we're just going to blend this all up and together until there's no more powder showing and it kind of becomes super smooth like. You see, there's a lot of bubbles. We're trying to avoid that because that's probably got a little bit of pockets of powder. You never you never want to mix powders with liquid and have those little pockets where you touch it and it looks like a an explosion of whatever the powder is but this is looking already really really good. It's got that banana color and I gotta say already it's smelling real banana like a Now, just to add a little bit more flavor, I got some pure vanilla extract over here. Okay, I'm just going to add some of that. Not much, just a touch, okay? That's just going to bring out more of the banana flavor it's going to mix really well with the golden Oreos eventually and like I said this is kind of like a layered a layered dish right so ideally the the concept here is to layer the bottom of the dish with the Oreos then add slices of bananas then add some of the pudding of course and then That's when we add the whipped cream and top it off with the more golden Oreos. Now give that a taste. You always gotta taste. Oh yeah that my friends is next level so we're going to set that aside for now and we're going to start prepping the bananas okay so really the the whole deal here is everything has to be layered right first thing you gotta know is we've been we've been peeling bananas wrong our whole lives we're not really supposed to peel it from the top we're supposed to peel it from the bottom or is that even the top and is that even the bottom now what this is going to help with is just the easy peel ability right? And then you want to just cut it into sort of like not that that's too big but like basically this thick pieces okay that's the thickness we're going for and the thing is is that you want to kind of I know this is weird to look at but twist the banana as you cut so you don't get weird shapes as the banana curves so should you be curving Now I think this recipe probably calls for about three bananas. But look if you have too many it's okay. We'll just we'll eat whatever we don't we don't use in the in the banana pudding dish. Casserole tensitive title. I'm using these bananas. They're they're super soft. They're not like in any way green. Uh they're very ripe. I let them sit on the counter for roughly 2 days. In a past recipe that I've done with this because this is not a new one for me is I mush them up and combine them with the banana pudding but because this is more of like a casserole kind of situation I thought it would be cool to keep them in place aesthetically because essentially we're going to be like layering a see through bowl in with all these ingredients right? And the reason you're using I I listen I don't know ripe not ripe they gotta be mushy okay who we kidding here they gotta be mushy because as you crack into the bowl as you crack into the serving and you want to scoop out like a serving you want to you want to be able to kind of like get a spoonful of everything and if the bananas were too ripe too hard I fear that that would kind of miss the purpose right alright so we have of our bananas right over here this is three bananas worth of slices English and then we have a see through bowl right over here this is what we're going to be using to layer everything together aesthetically pleasing, right guys? So, first thing we gotta do is measure out how many Oreos are going to go at the bottom. Now, obviously, this is not circular not equal so we're going to get more Oreos as we get to the top right put one in the middle there get a couple this way that's pretty good for the bottom okay now we're going to start layering the bananas on top now you want to kind of skew the bananas a bit and what I mean by that is there's little spaces of of Oreo and it's okay to put the banana in between that because again you could already start seeing the layers right That's the whole point. This is one of those things you want to bring to a party. People are going to think that you slaved over a hot stove making banana pudding when in reality get path of least resistanced it which is what I built a whole career off of. Nothing wrong with that, right? If it's there, use it. That's my motto, right? Banana pudding, instant banana pudding is there for a reason, okay? Sure, you could make regular banana pudding, that'd be fine. You could make a regular from the package or you could take it to a place guys by making it this way now we're good to go we're going to add our first layer of banana pudding look how thick this is oh my goodness it's almost like a cake it's so thick now we got one scoop in there a and you want to carefully kind of spread it along making sure that you don't displace the layers, okay? It takes a little bit of finesse but I know you guys could do it if I could do it you could do it trust me right but it's already looking like magic right now but we're not done yet there's there's another layer that I fail to tell you and that's going to cause just infinitely more flavor and texture in this whole thing and what that is is some whipped cream. Oh yeah, that's right. We're adding some whipped cream here. Listen you don't have to do this part you could use regular whipped cream or you could you know do what I'm doing I'm really just adding it as a layer color wise we're going to spread that as well okay it's going to kind of like break up the layers a little bit Now, I'm doing that. This is the extra creamy version. You could use the you know, the the one that comes in the freezer that's cool too but this is really just to sort of break everything up layer wise right Alright once that's done we just repeat guys. We repeat everything again until we reach the top. Right? So we go Oreo's. We go bananas. We go whipped cream banana pudding and then whipped cream as far as this will take us. I already see the layers. That's what we're looking for. Bananas, Oreos, whipped cream, banana pudding. Let's go. Alright, next layer. Keep it moving with the Oreos. Not sure how many this is going to fit. Don't worry if they're cracked either by the way. It doesn't really matter because essentially, you know, we're going to be breaking into these, right? Again, this is like the alternative to using vanilla wafers. Sure, you can't find golden Oreos. Not sure why you wouldn't be able to find them but if you can't, This is a great alternative to that. At least I think so. Sure you can use regular Oreos if you want that'd be cool too but then you're changing the composition of the whole thing and then it becomes an Oreo banana. A regular Oreo chocolate banana pie pot pudding. Which you know what? As I say that out loud. Sounds pretty awesome. Right? Chocolate banana chocolate Oreo Banana Pudding. That's like the next one I'm going to do after this. That sounds even even more decadent. It's my favorite thing about using Oreo's in recipes is there's so many Oreo flavours. Oops there's a little runaway. There's so many Oreo flavours that you could dictate so many different recipe ideas. Like what else do you want to see in terms of like a banana pudding dish? Right? I can do so many different variations. But today it's Oreo Banana Pudding. Banana Oreo pudding. Tentative title. Alright we got all of our bananas down there. That's looking great. Give your hands a little bit of a cleaning here. And here goes the pudding. Okay. Okay and you want to just kind of give a couple dollops. Don't displace any of the bananas. You want to kind of carefully spread it out. I want to say it's about hm maybe a cup cup and a half of pudding per layer Oh this is looking so good guys. And then obviously at the top you you know it's going to get crazy. We're going to crush up We're going to crush up some Oreos and litter it over the entire top. See, you could just do what I'm doing right now and just leave your spatula and then just turn the bowl and it kind of helps it evenly spread everything pretty well. Oops. If you have like a cake spreader, that'll probably work too. Alright, this is good. Let's add some more of this whipped cream. Now listen you don't have to use the canned whipped cream. But I find that it's just with the creaminess it's pretty good. You just gotta spread it. You can make your own whipped cream if you'd like. I'm not saying you shouldn't or couldn't. When you're dealing with path of least resistance cooking like I am, the can kind of works out perfectly and then just keep doing what we just did. Just turn the bowl, leave your spatula, and let gravity kind of do the work for you. It doesn't have to be perfect either. You know if there's spots missing it's no big deal. So so far we got it's a nice amount of layers right there. Am I right? Look at that. Looks pretty good. Let's keep it moving. More Oreos. That's right guys. Oreos. I feel like we probably have this is probably like the last layer if I had to guess. But as you could see like each layer is getting more Oreos than the next, right? And that's just because the bowl kind of goes like that. Nothing wrong with that. Again don't worry if some of them don't fit just press it down if it's overlapping a little bit it's no big deal Let's go with some more bananas over here. I think we might have to cut one more banana. Because I think I'm one short. But don't worry. Bananas come in bushels or whatever they're called. Now after we're done this we're going to put it in the fridge kind of let it set for I don't know like a half an hour and this will stay in your fridge this will stay good you know if you want to keep going going back to it this will stay good for up to three days you could probably put it in the freezer and get some sort of like I don't know ice cream cake maybe we'll test that not sure alright so four bananas that's that's what we ended up with four bananas, an entire box of double stuffed golden Oreos. That's what we're here for guys to make your dessert dreams come true. Three layers of each in this in this whatever you want to call this see through bowl alright cool one more layer of Banana Pudding. Oh my god. This is going to be next level. Holy cow. Look at that. Look at that. This is what I'm talking about guys. This is wild. Alright, so just let carefully spread it, alright? Now this is going to serve an entire party. Like who we kidding? This is not for a one person show. This is going to serve everybody. See, I got a little displacement there. I got a little, I got a little rough with it. You probably could do one more layer who we kidding but then it would be just too much. Oh wow. This smells awesome. First had banana pudding. You know I I I come from Canada. There's not a lot of barbecue in Canada. And when I first started living in Los Angeles there's a barbecue restaurant and they served banana pudding and I became obsessed. So good. Oh my this looks awesome guys. This just Can't get enough of it right now. So I'm just spreading this out. Trying to like get to the edges. Make sure that all the banana pudding is off the spoon or else I'll just lick it. Nothing wrong with that, right? Holy cow. Wow. That is something else people. That is something else. Look at all those layers. Banana pudding. Freaking Oreos. Let's hit the top with some more whipped cream if it isn't sweet already. I'm going to add a lot of whipped cream this time. A lot. Okay. I'm not messing around. Now we're talking. Oh my goodness. I feel like I should smooth it out though. What do you guys think? Or should I just leave it as is? I'll just leave it as is. Now we got some we got two Oreos left over here. Let me just wipe my hands. We got two Oreos left over. And what I'm going to do here, I'm going to crush them up as best I can. Okay, just like mix it all together and really what I'm going to do here is just First, I'm going to wipe my hands but we're just going to garnish the top with some more Oreo's. Yeah, what the heck? We already went this far. Might as well go a little further. Am I right? Maybe I could probably like, you know, use one or two less Oreos but that wouldn't have been fun. Alright so you know what? I am actually going to spread out the top. Um I just I like the look of it better. This is cool and everything but You see, that's the thing with with my cooking, right? You just, there's no rules like I just decide on the fly. Yeah, okay. Sure. Let's spread it out. Let's spread it out. Let's add more. Why not, right? Why not? Just add a little bit more. I want this, I want this coming out the top. Yeah, we're taking it to a place. Guys, this is taking it to a place cooking with Josh Elkin where we take all of your cooking dreams to a place. Alright. Yeah that's good. Now the the key thing here is doesn't have to be perfect by any means necessary. Just has to be delicious. Which you know it will. Now we're going to take not even much just like you know sprinkle on whatever you can. Random places. The idea is to be rustic which home chefs like myself use as a word to make us sound like we know we're doing rustic and deconstructed. Two things that actual chefs never say. Oh hell yeah. Uh that's it guys. Now what we're going to do here we're going to pop this in the fridge for 1 hour. But first just take a look at that. Alright we're back after an hour in the fridge. This has set nicely. You could see all the different layers. I personally think it looks fantastic. Let's crack it open and see how it tastes. Right? Alright so oh my goodness. You're getting like a full scoop full here. Look at that. What? Heck yeah guys. Heck yeah. So we have the Oreos that are like sort of softened a little bit. We have the bananas obviously in there. Right? Let's push this to the side a bit. I like using the whipped cream from a can and the reason is because it doesn't sort of stay thick which I'm not I'm I'm okay with, right? It sort of like loosens up a little bit but look at that. Look at all the the flavor in there. Textures. We have a full bite right over here. Oh my goodness. This looks insane. The Oreo's running through the entire thing. Love that. Alright. Well, here we are. The Oreo Banana Pudding situation. Oh my goodness. Like obviously it's super sweet. There's a lot going on in here but very creamy. Extremely banana forward which I personally love. And how easy was that to make, right? And you could see all the different layers here. Holy cow, that's good. Oreos and banana pudding. Nailed it. Look at that. Bananas and Oreos running through the entire thing. Nailed it.
