To make this couched patchwork tote bag I have used a Charm Pack. I love using 5' squares to make bags. Everything is precut and you don't have to think too hard about matching fabrics as it's all done for you. That is of course, if you are using Moda Charm Squares or another brand of precut squares. Here are some tips:

- I used a 2 1/2” acrylic square template and fussy cut a strawberry in the middle.
- cut a background square at 5 1/2” (you can do any size center square-just add 3” to the size of the center square to get the measurement for the background square)
- lay the center square onto the background square in the middle, with the background square on the diagonal.
- use a piece of cardstock to use as a guide to fold over sides and press. Use a 1/4” seam to sew around all 4 sides.
- trim finished block using lines on a ruler to keep the square even and trim 1/4” away from the corners.
- for the outside square, cut 2 squares of fabric 1 1/2” larger than your finished block Sewing Squares Together, 10x10 Fabric Square Projects, Square In A Square Quilt Pattern, How To Square Up Fabric, Fabric Squares Projects, Square In A Square Quilt Block Tutorials, Square In A Square Quilt Block, Quilt Squares Ideas, Simple Quilt Blocks

In this tutorial, we will be showing you how to cut your own charm squares for quilting (or anything else for that matter). Charm squares are 5' x 5' squares of fabric and are sold by the company Moda. They usually come in a pack of 42 squares and are coordinated so that you can easily use them in a project. However, other companies also make 'charm squares'...they just won't call them that since the name is already used by Moda. Either way, if you want to cut your own, then keep reading as…
