Tar monster

Black Tamanous (Native American) - This black tarry ooze monster feasts on the act of cannibalism. They merge their bodies with sleeping creatures and then force their hosts to feast on their own kind. After the tamanous gets bored with its current host it will leave the body to search for a better one, leaving the previous host behind to rot away in a black pool of its own corrupted hunger, becoming a new Tamanous.

Quick sketch for tonight, inspired by tar scented shampoo! I don't know how prevalent tar candies , shampoo and all kinds of tar things are outside the Nordics, but I do love my tar product ™ ! And now I crave for tar candy

Creature design

"In addition to lurking in the ceilings, they can also stalk in the walls as well. While they are more prevalent near the ceiling in most areas, in tight spots of a cavern or dungeon they stick to the walls, grabbing anything that carelessly turns a corner or enters a tight passageway. Carrying fire is a good self defense, however it has to be a very strong fire or of a magical source to be of any effect as it can easily be smothered out by the tar beast."

Today I was still in the mood to draw more of these fellas, I've got a few more coming later today/tomorrow, as I decided to just go for quick speedpaints with these so these were quite quick to make :) This one likely lurks around the ceilings of dungeons and caves, waiting around until something gets stuck in the tar pool below it. Tar-Baphon The Whispering Tyrant

This is 1 of 3 tar creatures I painted for Hearthstone: Journey to Un'Goro. I've included a few process images to go with the final art. the first is my initial line drawing. The second is a value study and the third shows the color in-progress. Color was gradually applied on layers over the grayscale study and then eventually, the image was flattened and I painted in final touches.
