The purpose of a study is to critically assess common presupposition, that fake news is a) a thre... more The purpose of a study is to critically assess common presupposition, that fake news is a) a threat for civilization as we know it; b) something that appeared only recently or at least that recent examples present a more serious threat for civilization as those from the past. It looks like the fast and global spread of fake news widens the gap between objective reality and that reality asserted by fake news. It is thus accepted especially by so-called liberal media but also a wider intellectual community that we are living in the post-truth era. Such shift is mainly attributed to a strong anti-scientific movement of which one of more important consequence is agnotology that is then understood as one of the major causes for the inefficiency of democracy, post-democracy

Innovation happens all around the Universe and is a fundamental mechanism of evolution. Living cr... more Innovation happens all around the Universe and is a fundamental mechanism of evolution. Living creatures cannot but exist and develop through innovation. Innovation happens through mutations that make sense in retrospect only. Natural selection makes certain mutations as beneficial and other as something that was already forgotten. As much as genes serve as quantized smaller units where innovation takes place in physical bodies, memes serve as basic quantized units of human culture. Memes as second replicators to genes obey similar laws of evolution and thus innovation as genes. Innovation can be propagated only by removing obstacles on one side and by allowing mutations to emerge as long as they do not destroy identity.

While we generally accept evolutionary mechanisms at the biological level, i.e. at the level of g... more While we generally accept evolutionary mechanisms at the biological level, i.e. at the level of genetic interaction and replication, it seems that human nature/nurture evolution rarely comes into play. Research on public relations is especially prone to avoiding the cross-fertilization of not only natural sciences, but also evolutionary theory and philosophy in the broader sense of the term. It is one of the aims of this paper to highlight various fields of knowledge that not only could but should serve as an important mental tool for any PR practitioner, not to mention researchers. Since we are confined to a memetic world, as is going to be proven in the continuation of this paper, there are no obstacles for researchers of any field in understanding findings from other fields from the (necessary) perspective limited by said researchers' acquired discourse. The main aim of this paper is to challenge the most widely accepted malicious nature and consequences of fake news. This paper does not limit fake news to media news, which was the source originally branded with that moniker, but to all instances of communication when some news or piece of information is taken and defined as fake.
