In other words, we are going to investigate the representation of and the relationship between the distant and the close, the local and the global, and the foreign and the exotic in the post-9/11 world, through an in-depth analysis of Salman Rushdie's Shalimar the Clown.

As a fighting term, a theoretical weapon, and “the need, in nations or groups which have been victims of imperialism, to achieve an identity uncontaminated by Universalist or Eurocentric concepts and images,” postcolonial discourse is torn between its use of mutually incompatible critical categories. This means that post-colonialism is lacking a monolithic foundation. With this in mind, the present paper seeks to highlight the ideologies and trajectories which have shaped the field of postcolonial studies as an academic discipline, which attempts to undermine and transform the dominance of Eurocentrist colonial discourses. The purpose here is not to provide an exhaustive account of the field, but to focus on the main hermeneutic methodologies that have contributed to the constitution of post-colonialism as a discursi...

Many others, however, have predicted the end of globalization. This paper, then, seeks to delve into the complex, contentious and ongoing debate on globalization and its position in the post-9/11 world order. It also aims to address the impact of contemporary globalization on culture, identity, geography and nation-state as well as the relationship between the global and the local.

However, religion did "return from exile" with ferocity partly after the Iranian Revolution and remarkably after the 9/11 attacks and the Arab Spring heralding the gradual decline of secularization theory. This comeback of religion does not mean the end of secularism, but rather the conflation or marriage between religion/Islam and secularism forcing Islamic discourse to enter a new phase of post-Islamism and secular discourse to enter a new era of post-secularism. In addition to deconstructing the afore-mentioned concepts and highlighting the role of performance of protest in mobilizing the protesters during the Arab uprisings, my paper is concerned with investigating the issue of spirituality in performance studies and highlighting the reformulation of religion's place in the Arab public sphere in the post-Arab Spring era. It also argues that the multi-faceted, hybrid and revolutionary post-Islamist public sphere has contributed to the emergence of youth religiosity as a model that is independent of the ideological establishment.

There is no doubt that 9/11 has heralded the comeback of religion into world agenda. This return of the sacred/religion seems to have influenced the identity formations of the Diaspora communities particularly in the United States. The paper also aims to show that in debating the root causes of 9/11 and its aftermath, cultural explanations have received the most attention, while political explanations have arguably received the least attention.
