In such applications, sensor nodes are randomly deployed in an area of interest, a large number of exactly same wireless sensor nodes form a robust mesh network to prevent damages in case of a disaster. In many applications, however, deploying sophisticated sensors on every sensor nodes is unnecessary and very costly. For example, in case of Earthquake one seismographic sensor in an area of a few square kilometers is good enough. Other nodes would then disseminate the sensed information to relevant locations. The main contribution of this work is to propose a WSN architecture and communication protocol for integrated disaster control, when heterogeneous sensor nodes collect relevant information from different locations of the entire WSN and transfer selectively to respective control locations where they could be used for proper disaster prevention. We have actual...

Lack of conceptual clarity, classification of generic competencies as domain-specific or domain-general, and their development within curriculum or within cocurricular and extra-curricular activities are all areas requiring further work and discussion. Moreover, the methodologies for the assessment and evaluation of generic competencies within higher education have proved to be very complex and can be hardly used for benchmarking of higher education. This paper brings the overview of the main theories in the field and discusses the potential for the assessment and evaluation of student generic competencies within Croatian higher education, in the information and communication technologies (ICT) domain.

The experiment was conducted in split plot design with three replications where time of urea spraying, P1= at branching stage, P2= at pod initiation stage were distributed in main plots and doses of urea spraying T1= application of 100% recommended fertilizers as basal except urea, T2= application of 100% recommended fertilizers as basal, T3= application of 75% of urea with 100% of other fertilizers as basal and rest of the 25% of urea by spraying, T4= application of 25% of urea with 100% of other fertilizers as basal and rest of the 75% of urea by spraying, T5= application of 50% of urea with 100% of other fertilizers as basal and rest of the 50% of urea by spraying were distributed in sub plots. The highest plant height, number of pods per plant were obtained from application of 75% of urea with 100% of other fertilizers as basal and rest of the 25% of urea spraying at pod initiation stage. The highest seed yield was also found from application of 75% of urea with 100% of other fertilizers as basal and rest of the 25% of urea spraying at pod initiation stage followed by application of 100% recommended fertilizers as basal and application of 50% of urea with 100% of other fertilizers as basal and rest of the 50% of urea by spraying at branching stage. Plant height, pods per plant and days to maturity showed positive correlation with seed yield. On the other hand days to flower and plants per m 2 has no linear relationship with seed yield. The highest marginal benefit cost ratio (3.29) was recorded from application of 75% of urea with 100% of other fertilizers as basal and rest of the 25% of urea by spraying at pod initiation stage. So based on findings to increase the yield potential of BARI Masur-9 foliar application of urea may be a tool and hence application of 75% of urea with 100% of other fertilizers as basal and rest of the 25% of urea by spraying at pod initiation stage may be consider as the best treatment.

Yet little is known about the impact of unplanned/unwanted pregnancy (UP) on long-term health outcomes for children. This study aimed to examine the association between UP and child mental health and behavioural problems at 14 years, and whether this association is confounded or mediated by other variables. Data were from a prebirth prospective study that included 4765 mothers and their children (48.4% female and 51.6% male) followed up from pregnancy to 14 years of the child's age in Brisbane, Australia. Child anxiety/depression, aggression, delinquency, attention problems, withdrawal problems, somatic complaints, social problems, thought problems, internalizing, externalizing and total problems were measured using the Achenbach's Youth Self Report at 14 years. Child smoking and alcohol consumption were self-reported at 14 years. UP was prospectively assessed at the first antenatal visit of pregnancy. UP as reported by mothers at first antenatal visit predicted elevated levels of problem behaviours and increased substance use in children at 14 years. The impact of UP on child mental health and problem behaviours is partly due to the confounding effect of other variables, such as maternal socio-demographic status, mental health and substance use during pregnancy. Further research is needed to investigate the mechanism of association between UP and child aggression and early alcohol consumption at 14 years.

To reduce the high mortality in this group of neonates, identification of risk factors is important. Objective: This study was undertaken to find out the predictors of mortality in ventilated neonates in the Intensive Care Unit. Methods: This study was carried out in the Intensive Care Unit of Dhaka Shishu Hospital from March 2006 to November 2006. Neonates consecutively put on mechanical ventilation during the study period were enrolled. The enrolled neonates were divided into two groups; neonates who died after putting to the ventilator were in group-I and neonates who survived after receiving mechanical ventilation were in group-II. Clinical, biochemical and ventilator parameters were analyzed to find out the predictors of mortality of ventilated neonates. Results: During the study period total 51 out born very critically sick neonates were ventilated due to different causes. Out of these 51 neonates, 58.8% were male with a male to female ratio 1.42:1. Mean age, weight and gestational age were 5.3±6.5 days, 2171±796.2 gm and 34.8±4.1 weeks respectively. Out of 51 mechanically ventilated neonates enrolled for this study, 70.6% died. Factors significantly different in nonsurvivors were mean weight, mean gestational age, initial arterial pH and duration of hospital stay (p<0.05). Weight <2500gm, gestation <34weeks, initial pH <7.1, PaCO 2 >60 mmHg, serum sodium <130 mmol/l, serum potassium <3.5 mmol/l and FiO 2 >60% were significantly associated with mortality in neonates requiring mechanical ventilation (p <0.05). Significant relation with mortality was found in those neonates who developed complications during ventilation (p=0.01). Conclusion: Among the analyzed factors weight <2500gm, gestation <34weeks, initial arterial pH <7.1, O 2 saturation<80%, PaCO 2 >60mmHg, FiO 2 >60%, hyponatremia, hypokalemia and complications during ventilation were the significant predictors of mortality in ventilated neonates in the intensive care unit.

Clinical presentation of visceral leishmaniasis in children and adult may vary and at time may simulate many tropical and hepatobilliary diseases. Jaundice and ascites is not common in some patients. In this series of eleven cases Jaundice, splenomegaly, hepatomegaly and ascites are present in 55%, 100%, 91%, 27% of cases respectively. So, Kala-azar should be kept in mind while dealing with cases of many such clinical findings. Â DOI = 10.3329/jom.v8i1.1374 J MEDICINE 2007; 8 : 14-16
