The segetal flora comprised weeds of cereals, root crops and perennial grasses. The comparison was made separately for the native and alien weeds. The number of native species was higher than that of alien species and varied from 137 to 209 species. The number of alien weeds varied from 99 to 179 species. Vologda Province had the lowest diversity of both native and alien plant species. Udmurt Republic had the greatest native species diversity and Altai Territory had the greatest alien species diversity. The Asteraceae, Poaceae, Brassicaceae, Fabaceae, Lamiaceae, Caryophyllaceae and Scrophulariaceae families dominated in both the native and alien fractions. The authors compared the compositions of s...

The dataset includes 15329 observations of Pteridophyte. In total, the dataset contains information on 66 species, 4 subspecies and 10 interspecies hybrids of lycophytes and ferns, 2 classes (Lycopodiopsida and Polypodiopsida), 16 families and 29 genera. The earliest indications of the growth of Pteridophyte in the study region date back to 1853, and the latest to 2021. The dataset presented is based on herbarium specimens, published data, and field research materials by the authors. This dataset is the first and important step towards generalizing information on the current diversity and geographical distribution of Pteridophyte in the Urals and adjacent areas.

Currently, the process of urbanization is rapidly going on around the world. It has a character that is growing in time and space. Studying the flora of urbanized territories is one of the most important aspects of biological research. Employees of the Department of Biodiversity and Bioecology of the Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics of the Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B. N. Yeltsin compiled the list of species based on the results of their own research. Herbarium samples are stored in the herbarium of the Ural Federal University (UFU).

The weed plants refer to the plants that are not specially cultivated but adapted to grow in arable areas and reduce the crops size and quality. The data set was compiled by the authors' own research from 1999 to 2019. Herbarium samples are stored in the herbarium collections of the Ural Federal University (UFU), the All-Russian Institute for Plant Protection, Botanical Institute named after V. L. Part VII of the checklist includes 91 species and 6 interspecific hybrids of wild plants. The information on all the species is given on the occurrence in botanical-geographical districts and administrative districts of the region. In the checklist for species bioecological features are indicated (life form according to K. Raunkiaer and I. G. Serebryakov, coenotic groups and ecological groups in relation to moistning), zonal and longitudinal arealogic group, economic significance. As for the alien species, origin, migration thecnique, and level of naturalization achieved in the region are additionally indicated. Species that need protection in the region are noted.

Identifying the aggressive, underactive and nonactive weed species is essential for effective agriculture management. In arable plant communities of the Central Urals there are four activity groups of weeds. The group of the most active (aggressive) weeds includes 40 species or 16% of weed species present in the Central Urals. Within this group, weeds most common in crops form a group of highly active species with a high abundance (7% of the total weed species composition). The remaining 9% comprise a group of moderately active weeds which can also be considered as the most adapted to arable plant communities. Underactive and nonactive weeds make up most of the area’s weed species composition (84%). Underactive weeds (82 species or 32%) were found in arable plant communities of many crops, but mainly in small numbers. The group of nonactive weeds was the most diverse and include...

However, it is not clear whether urban areas disproportionately select for species from relatively few evolutionary lineages or provide opportunities for species across the full spectrum of plant lineages. Here, we examined the taxonomic and phylogenetic diversity of the floras in four cities (Yekaterinburg, Kamensk-Uralsky, Krasnoufimsk, and Turinsk) in the understudied region of Central Urals (Russian Federation). We classified native species into indigenous and apophytic species, namely, those that are sensitive to anthropogenic disturbance and those that have expanded their range with human activity, respectively. Alien species were classified into archaeophytes and neophytes according to when they were introduced (i.e., before or after than 1800). Phylogenetic diversity was quantified usi...

The authors analyze the history of urban floral research in Russia and provide definitions of terms – urban flora, native, indigenous, apophytic, alien, synanthropic species. The overview provides a description of methods and approaches used in different studies of urban flora. Special attention is paid to the analysis of the biological diversity of native and alien plants and the features of their spatial distribution in urban habitats. The authors raise problems of protection of biodiversity in cities and show the role of urban protected natural areas. The conclusion of the work outlines the prospects for further study of urban flora. The authors highlight an importance and necessity of creation of a unified database of vascular plants in the urbanized territories of Russia. Further usage of the database will allow to conduct a comparative analysis of the species composition of urban flora and to identify the degree...
