Their high affinity for the wide range of compounds forming host–guest complexes have led to their interesting and practical applications. As such, the involving of these molecular hosts in sensing, chromatographic separation, extraction studies, and membrane transport along with their ability to molecular binding selectivity are shortly outlined in this contribution.

Conventional KBr-spectra were compared for best determination of the active substance in pharmaceutical preparations. The Beer-Lambert law and two chemometric approaches, partial least squares (PLS) and principal component regression (PCR+) methods, were used in data processing.

The analysis of questioned documents therefore involves different types of analysis including comparison of the handwriting, ink, typescript or print, as well as physical and chemical characterization of the paper itself. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) has already successfully been applied to applications in geology, forensics, ceramics, metals, glasses and a wide variety of environmental and industrial materials. In this study the use of elemental compositions, determined by ICP-MS to differentiate paper samples was investigated. Paper samples of commonly used office document paper from different sources were first microwave-digested in nitric acid-hydrogen peroxide solution and then trace elements concentrations were determined using ICP-MS.

The combination of the new infrared spectrometer and a microscope was a natural thought of scientists in these fields. This development has been so rewarding and so useful in solving today's chemical problems that infrared microspectroscopy has quickly become a significant subclassification of infrared spectroscopy. Infrared microspectroscopy has a much longer history than the recent enthusiasm would imply, however. The great interest in the use of infrared spectroscopy to solve chemical problems that occurred shortly after World War II spread into the medical and biological fields as well as pharmaceutical and forensic sciences. The objective of this article is to review new developments in applications of FTIR microspectroscopy in analysis, covering the period between 2005 and 2013.

It is not meant to be a complete or exhaustive one, but will provide the reader with sufficient background for selected applications. Vibrational spectroscopy is a fast and non-destructive analytical method. When it is associated with chemometrics, it can be a powerful tool for pharmaceutical drugs analysis. This article tries to present new developments in applications of pharmaceutical or drug analysis, covering the period between 2010 and 2015.

The proposed procedure is based on the oxidation of captopril by potassium dichromate and the determination excess oxidant on the basis of its reaction with diphenylcarbazide (DPC). Under the optimum conditions, a good linear relationship (r = 0.9997) was obtained in the range of 0.08-3.5 μg mL-1. The assay limits of detection and quantitation were 0.024 and 0.08 μg mL-1 , respectively. The results obtained for captopril determination in pharmaceuticals using the proposed method and those obtained with the US Pharmacopoeia method were in good agreement at the 95% confidence level.

Fourier transform infrared spectrometry is well known as a powerful tool for determination of secondary structures of proteins. This paper presents the most recent experimental results obtained in our laboratory for this kind of analysis. A PeakFit operation was performed and some observations were made. Key words: FT-IR analysis, protein secondary structure.

This article presents a new method for quantitative adulteration of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) or corn germ oil (CGO) with a mineral oil, such as paraffin oil (PO). A Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrometric method, using ATR spectra, was developed for the rapid, direct measurement of edible oils adulteration. The results indicate the efficiency of the proposed method for the detection of paraffin oil in adulteration of EVOO and CGO with RSD (< 3.0%). Graphical abstract:

In... more Infrared spectroscopy it is becoming more and more useful in the field of biomedical research. Infrared spectroscopy has been used more and more to characterize biological matrixes, providing a simple way to obtain diagnostic and observational information from easily acquired samples. These tests are performed in order to monitor the changes, and in this way to characterize the biological matrix, with the aim of detecting the first signs that can diagnose a disease. Vibrational spectroscopy analysis of biological fluids has become more and more popular recently. Notably, the development of infrared spectroscopic screening of blood products, particularly blood serum and saliva, for illness diagnosis has attracted economic attention. This review examines some applications of the infrared spectroscopy method that was employed to examine human serum in order to detect disease at an early stage, published between 2017 and 2022.

Communication is based on the discovery that diester chlorogenoborate complex can be detected and quantified from green coffee bean. The study reports that such diester molecule can also be synthesized in stable form by direct reaction of boric acid and chlorogenic acid, in a mixture of acetonitrile–water (1:1, v/v), left to evaporate over a period of 48 hours, at room temperature, resulting a spirocyclic form (diester complex). The diester complex, with its molecular structure and digestibility attributes has potential application as prebiotic in gut health, oral health and as micronutrient essential for microbiota to human and animals.

Sunflower oil (SFO) is preferably chosen for frying because it gets soaked less and is very light... more Sunflower oil (SFO) is preferably chosen for frying because it gets soaked less and is very light. Nevertheless, there is a possibility that SFO is adulterated with thermally deteriorated oil re-used such as the leftover oil after the frying process of meat with breadcrumbs (TDO A) and potatoes (TDO B). It may be very harmful to our health and the environment, requiring a fast and reliable screening test for such adulterants. In this study, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy based on the attenuated total reflectance (ATR-FITR) sampling technique was studied for the direct determination of TDOA and TDO B as adulterants in SFO-TDO binary mixtures. Our proposed quantification methods were based on the simple linear regression analysis of IR spectral intensity (peak height or peak area) at the wavenumber 1746 cm − 1 on adulterant concentration 0 ÷ 10% (v/v) (R2 > 0.990). They proved to be accurate (% recovery in the range of 98.0 ÷ 101.1%), precise (RSD < 2.7%) and technicall...
