Since there is no satisfactory answer to this question, it may be stated that the size of a bank's capital represents a function of the operational risks it undertakes. Ensuring credit ability of the bank causes the need to determine the standards of solvency, i.e. adequacy of capital. The following text pays attention in particular to the solvency evaluation of the banking sector in the Republic of Serbia.
Macroeconomic reality of the Republic of Serbia has been for years characterized with a high unem... more Macroeconomic reality of the Republic of Serbia has been for years characterized with a high unemployment rate, employment rate decline, high illiquidity of economy, declining standard of living and high poverty percentage. The most vulnerable are certainly families without any income, particularly taking into account that the aid they receive is small, persons with disabilities and the Romani people as the largest national minority. To the largest extent, the mentioned characteristics negatively reflect to the material and social status of the employed and their families. Although the right to work is one of the most significant rights, the countries that are signatories of international conventions are not required to provide job for everyone, which is unrealistic to expect. With respect to the numerous criticisms made by employers on account of the business environment in Serbia, it seems that much more could be done to stimulate the opening of new workplaces.

There is an always present dilemma between ethics and economy. Nowadays the attention is much more dedicated to this topic, because the lack of ethics norms in business operations produces great damage at the micro and macro level. More than anything else the significance of ethics becomes apparent through establishing of socially accepted ethical norms, affecting in consequence all aspects of life. In the present study we shall try to explain the business ethics as a social responsibility of an individual as well as of collective moral actions followed during all aspects of business activities up to the point where they do not disturb business relations within the business system, as well as within the wider surroundings. This paper is particularly devoted to a comparative analysis of the principles of banking operati... more This paper is particularly devoted to a comparative analysis of the principles of banking operations in the context of conflict. For the purpose of conflict relativization, it is necessary to find an optimum between liquidity, security and profitability. This analysis shows that it is the obligation of every bank continually to adhere to the basic principles of banking operations, particularly the principle of liquidity, which, through the principle of security, will increase the profitability of the bank.
In the conditions of operations globalization and liberalization during the eighties of the past ... more In the conditions of operations globalization and liberalization during the eighties of the past century, banks considerably expanded their business activities outside the countries where their official main offices were located, which also included incorporation of a large number of affiliates abroad. Subsequently, banks moved their business activities from the countries with stricter bank legislation to the countries with more lenient legal regulations pertaining to that domain. Thus it became much more difficult for supervisory institutions to follow up their operations. The institution with the largest worldwide significance regarding creation of the international standards for supervision of banking institutions is the Basel Committee on Bank Supervision. Its business objective is to emphasize the importance of Basel principles for bank operations and financial stability.
