After the World War II the Czechoslovak officials proceeded with arrangements and negotiation of ... more After the World War II the Czechoslovak officials proceeded with arrangements and negotiation of quantification and compensation for ceded Ruthenia with due diligence. This effort was being pushed forward by Property Corporation in Slovakia and former Ruthenia and was supported by Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare. The Property Corporation also promoted its case in the press and actively influenced various politicians and officials. The Czechoslovak authorities' position did not change even after the political shift in 1948. Although the Property Corporation in Slovakia and former Ruthenia was "freely" dissolved the officials didn't abandon their agenda. Beside the compensation realised by the regime after the February 1948 there were three other compensation waves.

The Republic tried with dedication to help the Slavonic population of the region, hardly aware of their nationality, get rid of poverty and ignorance. Sub-Carpathian Ruthenia, however, did not fit into the concept of Czechoslovak statehood. Some Czechoslovak politicians (e.g. Karel Kramář) only perceived the mission of the Republic at Sub-Carpathian Ruthenia as the role of a "faithful trustee" that should hand Sub-Carpathian Ruthenia over to Russia when the right time comes. On the other hand, Czechoslovak Communists called the region Trans-Carpathian Ukraine as early as 1920s and alleged that the local Slavonic population are Ukrainians. 1960), whose activities left a significant vestige both in military and political course of Czech... more 1960), whose activities left a significant vestige both in military and political course of Czechoslovakian public life. The first chapter focuses on his youth, academic education and precocity. He finishes his secondary school education in Rakovnik, from which he moves to Russia shortly before the beginning of the First World War. In the course of the First World war he enters Česká Družina (Czech Retinue) as a private. The chapter focuses on the growth and development of Czechoslovak forces in Russia and studies those military operations in which Hasal participated. One of the fields of interest is also the Civil War in Russia, into which Hasal intervenes already as a commander of 2nd riflemen regiment of Jiřího z Poděbrad. The chapter terminates with the return of Czechoslovakian Legions to Czechoslovakia. The second chapter concentrates on Hasal's career in the first Czechoslovak Republic.
