In this study, a type of magnetic cationic hydrogel (MCH) is employed for NO 3 À adsorption and well characterized herein. Its adsorption capacity is considerably pHdependent and achieves the optimal adsorption (maximum NO 3 À -adsorption capacity is 95.88 ± 1.24 mg/g) when the pH level is 5.2e8.8. The fitting result using the homogeneous surface diffusion model indicates that the surface/film diffusion controls the adsorption rate, and NO 3 À approaches the center of MCH particles within 30 min. The diffusion coefficient (D s ) and external mass transfer coefficient (k F ) in the liquid phase are 1.15 Â 10 À6 cm 2 /min and 4.5 Â 10 À6 cm/min, respectively. The MCH is employed to treat surface water that contains 10 mg/L of NO 3 À , and it is found that the optimal magnetic separation time is 1.6 min. The high-efficiency mass transfer and magnetic separation of MCH during the adsorptioneregeneration process favors its application in surface water treatment. Furthermore, the study of the mechanism involved reveals that both eN þ (CH 3 ) 3 groups and NO 3 À are convoluted in adsorption via electrostatic interactions. It is further found that ion exchange between NO 3 À and chlorine occurs.

The results showed that the maximum removal efficiencies of RB5 (100%), chemical oxygen demand (83.12%), and total organic carbon (65.5%) could happen at pH of 7, catalyst dosage of 100 mg/L, PMS dosage of 2 mM, RB5 concentration of 50 mg/L, and time of 30 min. The results of the temperature effect showed that the activation energy (Ea = 20.92 kJ/mol) for the synthesized catalyst is much lower compared to other studies. The PMS/MWCNTs‐CoFe2O4 system had higher decolorization efficiency and kinetic rates compared to other adsorption and oxidation systems. Quenching experiments proved that RB5 was degraded by sulfate and hydroxyl radicals. The MWCNTs‐CoFe2O4 catalyst showed suitable stability and reusability even after five consecutive catalytic reactions. The continuous treatment of RB5 in real water resources was performed using catalyst packed in a column reactor, and its results showed the high efficiency of the column in the catalytic treatment of the dye at long reaction time. Based on the proposed degradation pathway, the azo bands and the naphthalene structure of RB5 are oxidized to compounds with low molecular weight.Practitioner points MWCNTs‐CoFe2O4 was used as a novel recyclable catalyst for the activation of peroxymonosulfate and dye degradation. The rate of dye degradation and peroxymonosulfate activation by MWCNTs‐CoFe2O4 was much higher than that of the catalysts alone. Radical , with contribution percentage of 73.20%, was the main agent for degradation of Reactive Black 5 dye. MWCNTs‐CoFe2O4 in the dye degradation process showed excellent stability and reusability, lower activation energy, and easier separation. The dye degradation products were identified by gas chromatography and UV‐vis spectrophotometric analyses, and their degradation pathway was suggested.

The method is based on the solvent extraction of iodide with 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (2-HMBT) in chloroform. The optimum conditions for the extraction of iodine-131 were studied by investigating the effect of normality of HCl medium, iodide ion concentration and other parameters affecting the extraction. Iodine-131 was found to be fully extracted with 1% 2-HMBT solution in chloroform at the HCl normality range of 8.0—11.0. It was also separated from irradiated uranium nitrate (fission fragments) and irradiated tellurium oxide by this method.

The conjugative capacity of the hexamethyleneiminyl and heptamethyleneiminyl groups is similar to that of a pyrrolidinyl terminal ring.

The strategy adopted involved the synthesis of vinyl modified silica particles with sizes ranging between 10 and 50 nm. These particles were used during the polymerization of methyl methacrylate in different ratios. The molecular weight of the PMMA increased with the amount of silica and conversion, due to the gel effect. The thermal resistance of the composites is highest for the samples containing the largest weight ratio of modified silica particles. The contact angle measurements revealed an increase with the amount of silica particles, the highest registered value being over 120°.

Materials and Methods: This study was a laboratory scale experiment, which used PACl and CS to remove Zn and Ni with concentrations 3-100 mg/L from aqueous solutions. Jar test was used to compare the Zn and Ni removal efficiencies of the chemical treatment options using PACl and CS. The dosages used for PACl ranged from 5 to 100 mg/L whereas CS dosages varied between 5 and 75 mg/L. Results: The results showed that optimum coagulant doses and pH were found at 50-100 mg/L and 11 for PACl and 20-75 mg/L and 11 for CS, respectively, when CS added with PACl led to a better removal efficiency of the metals (more of 99%). In mixed aqueous solution, the presence of Zn caused increase of Ni removal efficiency and the presence of Ni caused decrease of Zn removal efficacy. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that CS had higher removal efficiency than PACl for removal of Zn and Ni, and also CS as a coagulant aid led to increasing in metal removal.

Effects of Physalis minima Linn (PML) methanolic extract on blood glucose level and sperm quality... more Effects of Physalis minima Linn (PML) methanolic extract on blood glucose level and sperm quality of normoglycaemic mice have been investigated. Twenty four ICR male mice were randomly assigned to four groups and fed with maintenance diets (commercial rat chow, 5 g/head/day and water ad-libitum). Group A (n=6) served as a control and received additional 2 ml/kg bodyweight (bwt) of distilled water. Group B, C and D were supplemented with 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg bwt of PML, respectively. Bodyweight and blood glucose level were monitored on a weekly basis. After four weeks of treatment, all animals were sacrificed by cervical dislocation and their epididymis was collected and subjected to sperm analysis. Bodyweight was increased (p<0.05) over time but no differences (p>0.05) were observed between treatments. Blood glucose was decreased significantly (p<0.05) in PML treated groups (dose dependent manner) compared to control. Sperm quality was not affected with PML supplementation. In conclusion, PML methanolic extract exhibit hypoglycaemic effect without affecting sperm quality in male mice.

Ring spinning is the most popular and universal spinning system due to its significant advantages... more Ring spinning is the most popular and universal spinning system due to its significant advantages in comparison with the new spinning systems. But the yarn properties are hampered in ring spinning system with the increase of spindle speed and spinning triangle. Overall yarn properties can be improved by retrofitting of simple mechanical device (rocos) on conventional ring spinning machine. In this study we try to show, how rocos overcome the negative influences of spinning triangle on yarn quality. It also ensures outstanding yarn properties such as hairiness, strength, imperfections, elongation etc. Inspite of higher spindle speed as compared to the yarns which are produced in conventional ring spinning machine by using same raw materials.
