Waste Water Treatment-Bed of Coal Fly Ash for Dyes and Pigments Industry

An attempt has been made for the first time in Pakistan, to generate an effective and economically sound treatment facility for the toxic effluent of a dyes manufacturing plant. This is an indigenous bed which could replace expensive treatment facilities, such as reverse osmosis (RO), granulated activated carbon (GAC) bed, etc. The treatment efficiency was improved by coupling coagulants with fly ash adsorbent bed. The ash was collected from coal fired boilers of power plant at Lakhra Power Generation Company, Jamshoro, Pakistan. The use of this ash resolved the disposal and environmental issues by treating wastewater of chemical, dyes and pigment...

For this purpose, leaves from three plant species including Murraya koenigii (curry leaves), Laurus nobilis (bay leaves), and Camellia sinensis (green and black tea leaves) were selected and analyzed. The AOA was determined using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay, Ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assay and iron(II) chelating activity (ICA). Methanol was used for the extraction of polyphenols from leaves. Results showed that the highest TPC (15300 mg GAE /100g) and the highest AOA (DPPH = 51 to 88%; FRAP = 24-85%; and ICA=19-74%) was found in the green tea leaves. The lowest TPC (170 mg GAE /100g) and the lowest AOA (DPPH = 20-64%; FRAP = 18-48%; and ICA=15-42%) were shown in curry leaves. Antioxidant activities were analyzed at different concentration ran...

Ginning is a prime subject of textile engineering and integral part of agricultural machinery eng... more Ginning is a prime subject of textile engineering and integral part of agricultural machinery engineering. The ginning process can significantly affect fiber length, uniformity, trash and the content of seed coat fragments. The problem in ginning of cotton in Pakistan is that while separating lint from seed; the ginning machines damage the cotton fiber as well as seed because of outdated local machinery. In this research paper work has been done on modification the design and development of gin-saw blade as to improve the spinning characteristics of lint cotton. Cotton fibers generally losses its inherent physical characteristics at cotton ginning stage due to imperfect saw-gin blade design. The tooth profile of gin-saw is main functional part of gin-stand, it largely influences the physically characteristics of cotton fiber. In this study, it was evaluated the performance and efficiency of the modified tooth profile of gin-saws effects inherent characteristics of the ginned cotton ...

In our study cottons with and without foreign matter were processed into yarn. The cotton was carded but the contamination was not fully firmed by the card as foreign matter often flattened in carding. The contamination tends to fibrillate and behave as coarse fibers. The contaminated cottons fiber always appears to interfere with the drafting process and the ring travelers during yarn formation resulting in increased end breaks, thus lowering the strength of contaminated yarns.

It also highlights the strategic areas of work required on WH&S in cotton ginning industry of Pakistan. The first component of the research study was to review the relevant Australian WH&S model as this provides a framework to protect the health, safety and welfare of all workers at work and of other people who might be affected by the work. The second aspect of the research study involved site visits to cotton gins with the support of Australian Centre for Agricultural Health & Safety, Moree, NSW. During these visits the existing ginning process in terms of WH&S were reviewed. Informal interviews were also conducted with Gin Managers and Ginning Experts regarding Work Health & Safety in the Australian ginning industry. This article is one of a series of research studies that will inform a broader strategy development. The aim of the survey was t...

These dense seed rolls come from feeding cotton to the gins beyond the capacity which occur damage to cotton at gins has incorrectly been credited to the speed of the gin saws, rather than to the rate of feeding. These observations made by authors during visit to the ginning industry of Pakistan. Keywords: Cotton ginning; Quality gin management.

Effect of Drying Methods on Quality of Cotton Fibers Before Ginning

The decline in weight is taken as the amount of moisture and is stated as a percentage (%) of the quantity of either the humid or dried material. It is essential to evaluate the standard methods and compare them to know that which drying method detoriates the cotton fibers to the minimum. Three cotton varieties MNH-93, Niab-78 and Ali Akbar-703 were taken to dry with natural, artificial drying methods and cotton storage technique. The fibers were tested for effective length, fineness and strength. It was observed that natural drying technique least influenced the cotton fiber properties whereas artificial drying technique the most. On the other hand storage technique detoriates at intermediate levels but does not reduce the moisture to the exact level required. Artificial drying technique proved to be fastest as the temperat...

Passage of Moisture Due to Perspiration in Fabrics

Many characteristics of apparel textiles control collection and passage of moisture. Measurement and choice of moisture related properties associated to the wearing ease have proven to be even complicated than earlier considered. Skin contact comfort and surface wetness of fabrics are interrelated to each other for a wide range of fabrics. This gives an idea that movement of thin layers of gathered perspiration in the form of moisture is an important wearing placate element. This paper deals with the approach of how surface wetness is measured quantitatively, particularly the amount of moisture that is condensed in clothing next to human the skin.

Effect of Process Parameters and Bath Composition on the Dyeing of Cotton in Catalases Treated Bleaching Bath

The objective was to decompose hydrogen peroxide residues in the bleaching bath with catalases enzyme to be reused again for dyeing of cotton fabrics. Enzyme dyes and auxiliaries dosage was optimized to get neutral pH of bleached bath in relation to process parameters such as concentration (1-5 g/l), temperature (40-80 °C) and time (5-25 min). For dyeing in bleached bath effluent, reactive dye, electrolyte and alkali amounts were also optimized to acquire same color strength value as that of conventional dyeing method. The catalases was treated at 60°C for 20 min with 5% dosage, which transpired that the peroxide residues could be decomposed enough to give accurate neutral pH. It was also observed that with an increase in the concentration of dyes and auxiliaries (dye, ...

Through this research work the health and safety problems related to workers are improved. Health and safety of workers is the key to the quality and production of a ginning industry. Because when the workers are safe and healthy, environmental hazards are minimum, the working environment becomes conducive to work. . It has been revealed from field visits and literature review that there are number of problems in ginning industry relating to health and safety of workers. In accordance with this study, general safety precautions to workers and also dust control device cyclone on the machines are proposed in order to reduce diseases like cough, asthma, phlegm and Byssinossis etc. With the help of this research work all misshapes has been minimized.
